Oh okay so within the past few weeks, two kids got hit by cars leaving shool, someone else was hit crossing a big street on foot, and someone got run over walking on a crosswalk near me. Cool. Very cool.

This is the 16th fatality in pedestrian/driver collisions this year. Does anyone at City Hall care or are we too busy locking up garbage cans?

Over the weekend, the federal government quietly released additional details about Build Canada Homes. The increased transparency reveals a program that prioritizes 1- and 2-bedroom low-rise homes and lacks genuine support for innovation.

Picard’s point on AB’s new “dual practice” plan: evidence shows letting surgeons bill public & private won’t fix wait times, it likely lengthens them, drains staff from public hospitals, adds red tape, and undermines access.

A solution in search of a problem. www.theglobeandmail.com/gift/70a7e73...
Allowing doctors to practise in both public and private systems solves what exactly?
What Alberta is proposing may sound good superficially, but it makes no sense in the Canadian context

Encampments are not just a big-city problem; they are not really a next-to-daycares problem. They are real people pushed out as the margins of society were redrawn on housing, the economy, the drug crisis, and government resources on support. That column doesn't really say much other than, Oh No

This column elides and misidentifies root causes, and offers zero solutions other than what Barrie did in September (with no update on sustainability, funding, or even progress) and moving encampments (sure?). It sees a real and troubling problem and then fails to actually grapple with said problem.

Ah, the problem is not that we fail to provide everyone with adequate housing or services for people with addiction, the *real problem* is that the rest of us are forced to see the results of these things, under the label "social decay". Got it.

vacationing in Sydney (Australia) this week has left me nearly in tears about the state of public washrooms in Canada several times. I have used them:
-at the beach
-at train stations
-in parks
-at circular quay
-at an indoor/outdoor mall
all were spotless, well-equipped, and without big lineups.
Reminder that #OttCity ph1 LRT only got 3 washrooms at 13 ph1 stations; 2 (each end) forced on city by prov and 1 at Bayview due to advocacy; 1 was added at Line 2; AFAIK there are none added to rest of ph2; most are closed more often than open. This is a gender and equity issue. 1/
