Keep fighting. Human rights matter. No government should be able to override them.
Heartbreakingly, despite our best efforts, today the Government of Alberta was able to bring an end to the injunction against Bill 26 on the basis of its use of the notwithstanding clause.

This is a cruel and dangerous move by a government that will harm vulnerable young people.

Sad to see such a profound lack of ethical principles and moral courage. Leadership is in short supply when it comes to defending fundamental human rights.

The UCP’s branding of Bill 13 as the “Jordan Peterson” law takes on a whole new meaning with this revelation. How can we possibly tolerate a second law in this man’s name?
“Documents obtained through [FOI] show [Danielle] Smith … met with [Jordan] Peterson “to discuss how his organization can work with the province to have their online training platform accredited.”

Those discussions … would eventually include changing the law if necessary to allow the accreditation”

This is among the most democratically dangerous things Danielle Smith has said.

She wants to remove all checks and balances on her power and projects herself as the embodiment of "the people."

We have left the realm of liberal democracy in this province.
Smith doubled down on her anti court rhetoric today...

She even seemed to suggest that federally appointed judges couldn't render impartial rulings and that she believed her interpretation should always be above theirs.
