With Carney’s budget prioritizing the business elite, could this be Canada’s Mamdani moment?

#Opinion from @lindamcquaig.bsky.social
Linda McQuaig: With Carney’s budget prioritizing the business elite, could this be Canada’s Mamdani moment?
NDP leadership candidate Avi Lewis, like New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, openly advocates taxing the rich in order to provide benefits for ordinary people. Now there’s a wild idea.

We’re a small team of seven journalists who investigate stories wealthy and powerful people don’t want Canadians to know about

Now we need your help to defend our journalism and continue shining a light on information politicians want to keep secret

I’m sure all the people who were outraged about Colin Kapernick will also be furious about this bringing of politics into sports.

Hi Bluesky 👋

Small life update: I’m at the centre of a multimillion dollar lawsuit in Alberta launched by a failed candidate for Jason Kenney’s UCP

It may be the longest and most expensive media trial in Canadian history

I’m ready to go public about it and I want to share more details with you 🧵

The group collecting petition signatures for a citizen's initiative to defund private schools in Alberta seem well organized. They have a website with a professionally shot video that seeks to highlight the disparity between public and private school funding.

We try to give as much insight into how we report our stories and our dealings with tech companies as we can, and the narratives that they push. Meta has become obsessed with telling reporters that its smart glasses are no different than an iPhone. So we wrote this:

The last month of the anti-Mamdani campaign was an absolutely shameful undertaking, an attempt to rip the city and Democratic coalition apart and I'm very happy to see it failed.

Folks, Israel is not letting aid in which means Palestinians continue to have to buy food on the black market from Israel sponsored gangs. If you can donate a little money to the fundraisers we're posting, you can keep someone alive. Palestinians wouldn't beg if they didn't have to.
UNRWA has enough food outside #Gaza to supply people there for 3 months, amid desperate need. Our teams stand ready to deliver it.

But despite the #ceasefire, the Israeli Authorities’ block on UNRWA bringing any supplies into Gaza still continues.

Let us get aid into Gaza at the full scale needed.

When you visually see how much of the 'energy sector' dominates SK and AB economies, understanding their politics makes a lot more sense. Kinda. Source is Stats Canada. I'll also concede there might be more to this story, depending on how we capture the sector as a whole.

go to Saudi Arabia
OR
if she's not sure she can get to the head of a parade, call a referendum so if history shows she was WRONG, she can blame ALL ALBERTA.
NEVER takes responsibility.
