People think they hate urban canyons, but if you replace all the parked cars without outdoor dining and open streets these blocks become INCREDIBLY charming.

I think genuinely, Warsaw is on the cusp of joining the ranks of great cycling cities. #BuildItAndTheyWillCome 🚲

A concerted effort to build a real citywide network of dedicated routes is reaping rewards, with thousands of people now getting around by bike on the city's main avenues every day. 🚲

Car supremacy is kind of a fascinating tic of conservative ideology to me: They can only conceive of liberty within the structures of the status quo.

Driving in a dense city is *theoretical* freedom but in practice it’s oppression. Meaningful freedom is walking, biking and regular public transit.

Motorists are an invasive species in cities and if not strictly controlled, will inhabit any piece of public space their wheels can roll through.

Exactly the problem. We don’t need infrastructure just for avid cyclists, we need it for those new and/or apprehensive riders who are terrified of riding through their cities.

No car? No worries!

IKEA Utrecht started a pilot in which customers can rent an electric cargo bike, four-wheeler with storage box or bike trailer to transport their purchases home, without needing a car.

If the pilot proves a succes, it will be expanded to the rest of the country.

I saw a post the other day with a teen behind a steering wheel with her drivers license and the mom saying “she just got her greatest freedom.”

No, she didn’t. She got trapped into thinking that she needs thousands of steel to meet her basic needs.

Posts like this often come across as helpful advice, but they miss the deeper issue. They shift responsibility away from those operating the deadliest machines on the road.

Safety shouldn't depend on someone's fashion choices. It should start with those behind the wheel.

“People get very complacent driving cars, because it’s easy, and you are very protected and you’re very isolated inside your car.

It’s easy to forget that there’s a huge amount of energy inside a car, even when it’s only going 20 or 30mph."

All this scrutiny on SRL - a shame there wasn't enough for North East Link, now hugely over budget, and set to miss its "congestion-busting" promise, just like every big motorway project before it.
