In my half-hearted world-building project that will never see the light of day, one of my main characters was an artifical super-intelligence that was abused/mentally pruned as a "child" by their plutocratic father and then left as a parting "gift" when the revolution came.

Anyways, hi Grok.

If you're wondering why a large chunk of ostensibly left-of-center pundits are waging war on environmental protections in the form of an "abundance agenda," it's because Silicon Valley has quietly developed a culture of rampant pollution.

We need to tell stories about fights that last over decades, against enormous odds, that continue wounded despite extraordinary challenges and painful losses, and that in the end overturn a dead order and found a new world.

Last week I wrote a long piece on how oil demand destruction is likely higher than the consensus and I explained why that is likely. Electrification of trucking in China was a big reason.

I wrote the piece because there was no coverage of the issue.

Well good news! Now there is.
China's diesel trucks are shifting to electric. That could change global LNG and diesel demand
China is replacing its diesel trucks with electric models faster than expected, potentially reshaping global fuel demand and the future of heavy transport. In 2020, nearly all new trucks in China ran...

Every day I wake up begging God to just please, in the name of your Son, the sweet virgin Mary, and the Holy Spirit, let me spend the rest of my career/life electrifying the economy. It'd be so sick, it'd be so good, just let me do the divine work of installing heat pumps and solar panels Lord.

Renewables and electrification are the way of the future and an incredible investment in lower costs, good jobs that can't be outsourced, and better health outcomes related to lower pollution. The only material prosperity linked to continued fossil fuel use is Mohammed bin Salman's.

The graceful ballet of orbital positioning and maneuvering turns into a wild, blinding exchange of particle beam fire as both dancers meet, beams ricochet off magnetic shields or hit their targets, producing bremsstrahlung radiation as it fries out both systems and people.

FIGHT BIOFUELS MANDATES. The whole point of the Renewable Fuel Standard is to increase corn and soy prices to help America's 650 thousand corn and soy producers. That sucks for America's 350 million corn and soy consumers. It also sucks for the climate and the environment. 3

Wondering if the solution to declining birth rates (still not sure how much or if it's a problem tbh) is a combo of artifical wombs and communal child-rearing.

Affordability aside, having a kid is a pain in the ass. Raising a kid can be a pain in the ass. Eliminate one, reduce the other=more kids?

This is one reason I'm expecting intense natural selection in forms of government and cultural norms returning to the fore.

If you don't have a society that's at least reasonably inclusive towards migrants, children, and parents, your country is gonna literally fucking die.
the actual suicide of the West will be combining a rapidly aging population with hostility to migrants. however we must give credit to East Asia, especially Japan, for pioneering this model.

If you don't welcome in outsiders, you're fucked. If you can't make space for wannabe parents to fall in love and form households, you're fucked. If you can't help shoulder the burdens of raising a family and rearing kids into fully functioning adults, you're fucked.

A couple days ago, I fled home.

I have been dealing with a very difficult living situation due to my parents being emotionally abusive.

This Sunday was a breaking point for me and I couldn’t take it anymore. On Monday, I discretely packed my bags, computer, and left.

Various group-philosophical pessimisms will have you believing that universalism is impossible, not worth striving for. That if you don't oppress, you will inevitably be a victim. I refuse. We are best protected by democracy, by the rule of law, by human and civil rights.

Israel is engaged in genocide, it is a genocide materially assisted by the US, and AIPAC is the biggest lobby pushing for that material assistance to continue.

AND.

We need to proactively address anyone trying to exploit these realities and justified anger to advance or engage antisemitism.

I cannot overemphasize that Marjorie Taylor Greene, Carlson, and Fuentes see a 2028 path to victory that involves building an isolationist populist coalition that traffics heavily in antisemitism and exploits existing negative sentiment against Israel.

We have to be SHARP on the left right now.

the lesson you have to draw from this is:

A big part of why Mamdani won is that he actually seemed like he was interested in doing the job of mayor, and I would appreciate it if people let him focus on what is already going to be an uphill battle without demanding that he also declare war on the Democratic party.
AOC has been playing inside ball to climb the national dem party for years and this is why a lot of NY DSA now hates her; Mamdani barely just won over the NY machine, he has good reasons to not immediately start fights with the state party before he is even in power and has his people staffed.
AOC and Mamdani, arguably the two most prominent members of the DSA, allegedly choosing not to back Ossé in his potential primary run against Jeffries is certainly an interesting choice in the face of the NYC-DSA's reputation of being anti-Black
