It is so, so important to learn to understand the difference between A Gross Thing That Freaks Me Out, versus A Thing Which Causes Actual Harm In The World
because as long as you can't navigate the difference, your disgust is a lever that can be used to manipulate you

I enjoy the occasional brutal review and this absolutely delivered
but I do have a note: Milanesa, described as "a brawny veal steak that has been, to no discernible purpose, breaded and fried," is a Milanese steak, on the menu due to Italian immigrant cuisine in South America

It feels inelegant to say you should read my latest review because it’s very negative. You should read my latest review because it’s insane. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
La Boca Is All Smoke, No Fire
The Argentinean chef Francis Mallmann is notorious for his love of cooking over open flames. With his New York début, he fizzles out.

Thinking about how you can find danmei novels translated into Italian in any library but how you literally can't sell them in their native country, and this just makes me sad when I think about it

Researchers on gambling are pretty clear on this: Problem gamblers aim to annihilate the self, not win back the money they lost
Remember a family friend, 12 yr old, showing me GTA: San Andreas. He would ALWAYS drive directly to the casino and blow his money away - not because it was really beneficial or fun but because he was just rly hooked on the loop and fantasy of gambling. I think even just that fantasy can be predatory

sort of incredible to read a review that doesn't just made a vague nod at AI being bad, but actively reckons with the ways in which falling obsessively to AI usage actively obliterates the artistic intent and integrity of the work you've made.

I wonder if Burry has enough pull to be able to trigger the bubble pop just by himself
It’s true he’s been right about one massive crash (2008) and became a pop icon, but he’s done a lot of other predictions that didn’t come to pass
He does seem very persistent about this one tho

BURRY won’t let up — now arguing that Oracle and Meta are overstating earnings by understating depreciation:
“.. By 2028, $ORCL will overstate earnings 26.9%, $META by 20.8%, etc.”

Yesterday was the last day that my ol' gaming website VoxelSmash was online. There was a point in 2023 when we were operating with a (small) staff and even had a tiny but substantial freelance budget. Then, in November, Google hit us and destroyed all hopes of doing (decent) journalism.

I do really wish more Pokemon fans would at least move forward a little bit from Babi RPGs cuz like even the comments read from people who’ve never touched an RPG in their life. You are describing literally every RPG ever made.

i mean technically cuomo was "blue". democrats didn't score 50% against 49% republicans. the alleged left-of-center candidates scored 90% against republicans, and then mamdani scored 60% against the guy that would rather make his former party lose than admit defeat
Damn, I hate it when things that happen mean nothing :-(

I wrote a long article about Rieko Kodama, her career at Sega, the evolution of her company, the games she worked on (including some canceled games and/or games for which she is not credited), the status of women and working conditions in the video game industry, etc.
