One thing I started noticing recently is that competent engineers give up their credibility due to AI.

Twice already highly competent engineers I respect sent a PR that turned out to have very subtle issues. These issues would not be possible if a human understood it.

@plex.tv please reconsider removing the watch together feature from your native apps. Your web app is not a substitute as there are formats which some browsers/platforms cannot direct play but which your native apps can.

This will stop me from watching some shows with friends

Very strange energy from people who quoteskeet your posts and don’t add anything instead of just hitting the repost button. More and more people are doing this. I don’t like it. It’s unsettling.

A reminder of what Musk did to Twitter and an explanation of what he's doing to the US government. It's the same autocratic gameplan: slash, purge, break things.

When Musk bought Twitter, there were offers of paid exits, code reviews, eliminating of diversity programs, cutting of rent payments, and a reliance on staffers from his companies to enact his plans.

All of that is playing out now in DC. Twitter was a blueprint.

Musk’s Twitter Takeover Offers Trump a Blueprint
Federal agencies have offered exits to millions of employees and tested the prowess of engineers — just like when Elon Musk bought Twitter. The similarities have been uncanny.

As someone who went through an eerily similar episode of hostile takeover that also played out in public in real time, I want to tell all the fed workers, “I’m so sorry this is happening to you, I know how this feels.” And here are some of my learnings:

Just a warning about Casper mattresses: they do NOT hold up. I’ve had mine for just a couple of years and it was doing fine, but recently got into a Little Nemo-type situation and the bed broke up over the North Atlantic. Ended up needing a Coast Guard rescue and they laughed at my big nightshirt

I understand that some people still (for now) need X for bare bones promotional stuff but it's deeply embarrassing to see anyone I know posting there for fun
Bemused as to how people who claim to be anti-fascist are still posting on X after Musk’s salute at the inauguration yesterday

Make it make sense

It's really hard to explain to people who think tech CEOs are like the final boss of programmers that AI actually won't replace programmers, because it has no ability to reason and only a small portion of software engineering is outputting code (the only part LLMs can actually do).

Just saw Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Barbican and it’s an absolute hoot. Perfectly done, the kids were rapt from start to finish and loads of proper laughs. Apparently tickets are “from” £25; we paid more than that to sit in the upper circle, but that’s still a great view. Ends 18th Jan.

we are looking in to problems with search indexing of some accounts. this impacts type-ahead search of handles, for example, and has been ongoing for a couple days.

not any intentional suppression, just an operational bug.
