the answer to his hypothetical about a five year old American citizen is his party would like to deny it food and healthcare if its parents are working but poor and that the party would like to tear gas the American child if the parents take the kid to do free speech incorrectly
Gonzales on Liam Ramos and his family: "They're not gonna qualify for asylum. So what do you do with all the people that go through the process and do not qualify for asylum? You deport them. I understand that 5-year-old and it breaks my heart. I also think, what about that 5-year-old US citizen?"

This reminds me of Musk saying, when he was running DOGE, something along the lines of we'll acknowledge the mistakes that we are bound to make. Rather than "measure twice, cut once" seriousness of governing, he didn't consider the moral implications of his "move fast and break things" laziness.

To say aloud that the vice president is friends with Nazis and to point out that his Holocaust tweet is crafted so as not to offend them is to sound crazy to everyone who doesn’t know both are stone cold facts. Frustrating thing.
Legitimately a feat of carefully calculated writing to issue a Holocaust Remembrance Day statement of this length without mentioning either (1) the people who perpetrated the Holocaust or (2) the people against whom they perpetrated it

Trump banded the morally depraved together, but they’re still badly outnumbered.

We are observers, not protestors. We show up to document and film the atrocities ICE is committing. Using 5 year olds as bait. Kidnapping senior citizens. Breaking down doors without warrants. Murdering poets and nurses. Media has all of that information because *observers* were there to document it

This is a white supremacist paramilitary operation. Their goal—their stated goal!—is to force America to submit to the President's racist domineering vision for the country.

The sooner everybody starts confronting it on the terms that they themselves have stated, the better.

Remember when these guys lied that they were preserving Confederate monuments because you had to leave up the whole messy contested historical record rather than erasing history?
More than 400 years of history and a decade of advocacy were torn down Thursday afternoon when National Park Service employees removed every single display at the President’s House.

Hot take: Trump is America on steroids. It’s up to us to decide if we hate the core or if we hate the steroids.
Trump is making our country look like shit. Greed, threats, acts of war, domestic violence, abuse, terror, and more.

I hate him as much as the rest of you.

One of the most important things to keep in mind if you want to understand the American right today, especially the people leading the federal government and its allied media outlets, is they believe their own BS.

They really are in a bubble, and genuinely surprised when reality does not comport.
To those saying “nuh-uh, ICE picked Minneapolis because they WANTED the city to rise up as one against them” -

no, pretty sure they expected a scattering of blue-haired protesters they could easily crush for content + tacit support from other whites, not the organized total resistance they got.
ICE and MAGA really did bet the farm on all of Minneapolis’s white people going “oh yes, please take away our disgusting, evil non-white-foreigner neighbors, oh thank you so much.”

it’s beautiful that they’ve been proven incredibly wrong about that - may the rest of the country do the same.

It’s ironic that they’re like “if we do ethnic cleansing we’ll have a high trust neighborly society” and then Minneapolis is literally doing high trust neighborly society and they’re like nooooo
Many Americans are terrible neighbors to each other, and that is why MN is striking everyone as extraordinary activism... when they are telling us that it is not. They're good neighbors!

It's no wonder that "being a shitty neighbor" is the hallmark of our domestic politics and our foreign policy.

A year and a half until a full-blown Kristallnacht. For those who continue to dissent, we already have the camps operational.

TWO. Two chances this Supreme Court had to make the right call. One was the simply call January 6 what it was: An insurrection. Even the liberal justices couldn’t do that. The other was to not make sham and politically-motivated investigations an “official act.”

And here we fucking are.

The reactionary centrist logic is simple: if the left does something bad it’s the left’s fault, and if the right does something bad, it’s also the left’s fault for making them do it. It’s a simple formula and once you see it every one of their arguments is the same
