Insane but true fact: making US roads as safe as Canadian, Australian, or European roads would save more lives than eliminating murder from the US.

If you receive an illegal order, you have a duty to disobey.

This isn’t controversial.

A President calling for the execution of anyone who reminds service members of this oath is showing us why the duty to disobey illegal orders is so important in the first place.

Listened to this @volts.wtf banger this last night and it's wild just how incredible the rate of return is for improving indoor air quality in schools.

Where is California at with this? Do we have policy levers we can pull at the state level?
Today on Volts: for years, I've wanted to do a podcast on indoor air quality, and I finally found the perfect guest! Dr. Lagoudas & I discuss indoor air pollutants, the policies and technologies that can control them, and the growing need to frame indoor air quality as a basic human right.
What's the deal with indoor air quality?
From CO2 monitors to better building codes, Dr. Georgia Lagoudas outlines how to clean up the spaces where we spend 90% of our lives.

one of the big lessons re conservatives and especially conservative christians is that they are more satisfied by being comparatively better off than others rather than being better off in absolute terms.

they’re perfectly happy to lose if you lose more.
There are a lot of conservstives screaming "THIS IS WHAT GOD WANTS" as their lives get measurably worse.

We already have the technology to make a transportation system that works for everyone. Allowing car companies to experiment in public with unsafe and underdeveloped technology is putting everyone in harm's way.

Threats against lawmakers are not speech; they are coercion designed to freeze the functioning of government. If Congress can’t advise the military without fear of execution, then checks and balances are dead. The House and Senate must formally censure this attack. Call your representative now.

Walking and biking are “traditional transportation” and infrastructure that supports and promotes traditional modes of transportation is traditional infrastructure.
The highest-ranking transportation congressman is saying that biking & walking paths aren't "traditional infrastructure" and don't deserve funding in the next federal transportation bill. Broke down why that's historically inaccurate, morally wrong, and *possible to defeat* — if we organize.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.
