Was just thinking about how when you’re a compassionate person of color, there is a melancholy when uprisings finally happen when a white person dies. Cause you affirm humanity, so you believe it is the right thing to happen AND because you know how many of your own people were denied that dignity.

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

Remote desk jockey here - I’m taking PTO and donating my salary for the day to a community organization, and will volunteer where needed. Feels like a bare minimum kind of thing to do.
That’s a lot of places on strike. Very telling that the resistance is overwhelmingly being put up by the service industry. Where are the white collar workers?

Protesters interrupted a Sunday church service in St. Paul, Minnesota, over a pastor’s apparent work as an ICE official. The Justice Department says it's investigating. nyti.ms/4a0cn9s
There will no doubt be handwringing over the St. Paul church protest from people who have no idea that ICE has been stalking BIPOC and immigrant houses of worship all over the city.

Talked to a Somali man today who said his mosque last night was surrounded by neighbors ready to protect them against ICE if needed. Made me feel proud to live in this city.

A while ago our community Facebook page started immediately shutting off comments on anything ICE related and it’s actually an enjoyable and informative experience now.

this is a streamer driving a rental car. he was with status coup, he replied to this tweet. ICE are using rental cars so they wind up in citizen databases even after they’re no longer rented
The Trump regime has taken the next step in its plan to harass and intimidate journalists. Administrations have investigated leaks in the past, but have not searched reporters' homes. The warning is clear: do not tell the public what you learn or else.

This is an article I keep coming back to with growing frustration, as I see so many of our mainstream outlets refusing to adapt to an authoritarian regime, and often capitulating to the regime. This particular quote from a Polish journalist strikes me as especially important today.

My high school in Nebraska was literally only accessible to me by car. Since then a trail system has been built and kids have a safe option to walk or bike if they want. The community did this on their own.

I highly recommend watching this segment, not just because the CBS News execs and the White House didn’t want you to, but because these men were tortured and they deserved to have their voices heard.
(It was uploaded to the Global TV app in Canada, seemingly by accident, and has now been taken down)

This is fascinating, as an example of where an AI tool, used properly and carefully, can help people understand things. This is why I get annoyed at the people who insist that there are no positive uses of AI tools. Yes, many use it poorly. But used well, it can be very useful.
A lifetime of strange sensory symptoms finally made sense only when an AI was allowed to think about medicine the way no clinician has time to. My story: markatwood.substack.com/p/the-seven-...
