The Manitoba Municipal Board and the Granite Curling Club think that where cars "sleep" is more important than where people sleep. We could lose housing for 200 people because they decided that 45 parking stalls were more important than housing. #winnipeg #mbpoli

Every time someone gets killed by a driver in the city, all the news outlets repeat the police report, almost verbatim, with very little added. Just stenographers for the WPS.

No journalism, no investigation. Just copy pasta.

Do better CBC, WFP, CTV News.

The city skipped adding any bike infrastructure when they redid Selkirk a couple years ago, in favour of keeping this a high-speed, high-traffic corridor for people who live further out.

When you leave in a car you’re thinking “what’s the fastest way to get there?”

When I leave on my bike I’m thinking “what’s the safest way to get there?”

We are not the same

Drivers: I know you think you’re doing cyclists a favour by stopping & waving us through an intersection while you’ve got right of way, but you really aren’t. You’re being unpredictable and screwing up the flow of traffic for everyone and just causing further delays for us to safely cross. Stop it.

I dislike the framing of winter as an “excuse”, as if you can wish it away.

I see it as an additional *challenge* that is *surmountable*.

Winter cities need to (1) design bike infrastructure for snow, (2) care about plowing, and (3) learn how to do a good job of plowing/maintaining the bike lanes.

Devastating news out of Hamilton. Crossing guards are on the front lines in the fight for safe streets. That job is truly terrifying. Distracted to contemptuous drivers, the full range of road violence on display all day, just so we can cross the street safely...

CBC says the city told them today that they’ll be installing a leading pedestrian interval at this location. It’s not enough but it does show we got their attention.
We counted 90 people who came through today from 3:30 to 4:30.

Infrastructure should be designed so that motorists face the consequences of their actions, not the people outside of their cars.
This is at the end of the private drive passing between the Mill and Main buildings. They must have been going pretty fast to hop it up onto the boulder.

This is a small snow plow for sidewalks

If your city plows the roads but leaves sidewalks up to property owners, your city hates pedestrians.

Fares recovered 359 x $3.35 = $1,202.65

How much does this cost to run?

Less than $600/month?

First snowfall of the winter, which means also the first snow plows of the winter. On bike paths, of course. Tomorrow's forecast is full of rain and all this snow will probably be gone very soon, but of course, we can't wait for that here in Oulu 🇫🇮 👌☃️🚲🚶❄️

When you move around primarily or exclusively by car, you may not see the evidence of car crashes around you:

bent sign posts
broken car pieces
broken windshield glass
tire marks, etc.

For those who travel by 🚶🏻, 🚲, 🦽 & 🚌 these reminders are everywhere on sidewalks & streets.
