Happy May 1st. The value of your labor belongs to you and the actions of the state are best understood as as a coordinated effort to distract you from this. The state fears an organized and unified proletariat like it fears death and rightly so. Power to the workers and power to the people

Proposal: When discussing automation, replace the notional always-on, maintenance-free robot helper you're imagining with the average real-world printer you've encountered.

The more expensive and complex the printer, the more potential issues and "having a printer guy".

A much better baseline.

volunteering my free time by gently telling people this in reddit comment threads
Say it after me: Chat GPT is not a search engine. It does not scan the web for information, it just generates statistically likely sentences. You cannot use it a search engine, or as a substitute for searching.

Now. Please never use an LLM for information searches ever again.

video call cultures are emerging! Today I spoke with a teen volunteer at my work and they didn't turn their camera on, even though I had mine on. Work camera culture vs student camera culture - at work we usually do reciprocal camera, but students are used to camera off but watching the teacher.

Modern "tech" is full of dudes who watched the Instagram/Paypal/iPhone/etc. boats sail without them and make their inventors/investors disgustingly wealthy, and refuse to believe there's no one, final ship, just for them.
When was the last time they invented something worthwhile? The smartphone? The iPad? It’s been scams all the way down for at least a decade.

Hey good morning i wanna just have a quik chat with the other cisgendered people in the room: Ok, ok reminder- do not make it about you if you fuck up pronouns. A big spiel about you and your efforts and your trying isnt a thing anyone wants. It makes it weird. Apologize, correct, move on. Easy.

We must stand up for the rights of trans people in Canada. As the world enters a dark time for trans folk, we can push Canada to be a safe haven - but only if we vote.
Vote today, like you care for your queer and trans loved ones.
The attack in the Conservative Party platform on trans folks should worry all of us. Think carefully before you vote, and check out the @momentumcanada.net Drag the Vote campaign for an analysis of how all of the federal parties stack up when it comes to 2SLGBTQ+ rights.

too real
A thing about neurodivergence and masking is that eventually you realise that a. masking doesn't necessarily mean masking as "normal"; and b. being able to dictate *exactly what kind of weirdo people think you are* is often much more valuable. It's like, ha ha, fuckers, now I control the narrative.

JKR believes that the success of her books & adaptations are a direct endorsement of her views. In this case you cannot separate the art from the artist.

Don't watch the new show, don't buy the games, don't promote them in any way.

The success of J.K. Rowling's transphobic fight depends on the future of "Harry Potter"
Rowling's divisive opinions make it increasingly difficult for fans to separate the art from the artist.

After a conversation with my brother the other day, I can't stop thinking of current ai-gen images as Corporate Memphis with added environmental damage. Generic, easy to make, boring... but now with more energy costs.
April 21, 2025 at 6:01 PM
Like... look, machine vision is a cool field with excellent applications. And I get that part of teaching machines to "see" includes getting them to make images. But the corporations selling you ai art generators are just in their loss leader phase. 1/2

I hear people say "it won't be so energy hungry in future" and while that may well be true, 1. it's that energy hungry NOW, and 2. it's still trained on stolen work.
Another reminder that a single AI image produces the same amount of CO2 as driving 4 miles, and AI "art" steals from real artists.

Tell your friends. AI memes are dogshit and terrible for the environment.

Sorry but I just don't feel comfortable sharing public toilets with transphobes. At any moment they could just demand to have a look at my gennies. The law should protect women's spaces from these creeps.

As someone who grew up online in the 90s and 00s, I was nebulously exposed to the idea as a teen. It never made sense to me to discriminate against trans folk. I still had a lot of learning and unlearning to do, but trans rights have been a core issue for most of my life.
I'd heard about transness a few times, but never really thought about it until a friend came out to me. She only came out because I was so candid about my disabilities, and she was *so scared* of how I'd respond. It all became real very fast. She deserved better than how others had treated her.
cis folks, i'm curious for you to share answers, if you want:

what made you start caring about trans rights? who'd you know/what happened? tell me the story.

In light of current events, it's worth saying again: trans women are women. Trans women do not threaten womanhood.
