Obviously I’m not happy about anyone’s death, by the same token, I am not going to miss this guy either.
That being said, if this escalates and provides the impetus for federal emergency powers, we all lose. For that reason, DeEscalation is key right now.

Just dropping that here.

The Deep State is now a bureaucrat in shorts hurling a sandwich at a fascist
there's a secret network of government bureaucrats that subverts the democratic will through sophisticated and clandestine means, like, for example, smoking law enforcement officers in the chest with a footlong meatball sub on camera
Attorney General Pam Bondi says that the "Subway Slinger" who chucked a sandwich at a federal agent in DC the other night is actually a DOJ employee. She describes him as an "example of the deep state."

Media outlets can't pivot to AI to save themselves. It's not a business strategy and it's not going to work. The only path forward is for journalists to lean into their humanity, to do things AI can't, and to make clear they are writing for people, not algorithms:

The Media's Pivot to AI Is Not Real and Not Going to Work
AI is not going to save media companies, and forcing journalists to use AI is not a business model.

This happens regardless of political bent. I know because I’ve been there. Using soldiers as political pawns is just wrong. This fascist deployment is wrong period. Don’t be distracted. Quietly get their needs met, because it’s right. Our enemy is fascism, let’s focus there, not on logistics.
Trump deployed the National Guard without food, water, or a plan.

He treats our troops like toy soldiers—no plan, no respect.

This isn’t a game. It’s reckless chaos that endangers our servicemen and women as well as civilians protesting his inhumane treatment of immigrants.

Shameful!

An American citizen and Los Angeles native, @seiucalifornia @seiuusww President David Huerta was injured and detained when ICE terrorized a working neighborhood. We demand his immediate release!
Let’s be clear: ICE injured and detained the president of SEIU California for peacefully observing.

ICE picked the wrong side. The wrong state. The wrong person. and the wrong union. David Huerta stood up. And now 750,000 SEIU workers are standing up behind him.

Redlining is now tech enabled, this is redlining 2.0.

Redlining is a discriminatory practice where loans and/or insurance, are denied to residents of certain neighborhoods based on their race or ethnicity. It is wrong, racist and completely uncalled for with or without tech‼️

nobody makes as strong a case for the need of us to destroy AI as the AI companies themselves, pushing this shit.

Folks, the way to read the NYT article about OpenAI and higher education is to recognize that the person OpenAI hired to lead their effort came from Coursera. Remember when Coursera and MOOCs were going to cause the reinvention of higher education?
June 7, 2025 at 12:50 PM
🙄
No private company should have this much control over higher ed.

And let’s be clear: OpenAI’s vision is for *their commercial product* to become part of the core infrastructure of higher ed- not AI in general. Because they are currently not a profitable company.
