Embarrassing takes from State senator Jeff Irwin. "Uhh other bad things are happening so we should worry about $1.2billion of nuclear warfare in our backyard." LANL is literally calling this "the new Manhattan Project" It's a big deal and bad news for our community and communities all over the world
There is quite a bit of satellite, naval engineering, optics, sensing, and data/IT work happening right now in Washtenaw County that has a connection to DoD or DOE. Some of these research initiatives are good in various ways. Cybersecurity and AI research shouldn't be 100% corporate-owned.

The UM/Los Alamos data center in Ypsilanti will most likely be used to continue these forever wars. We have to assume it will due to the classified nature of the that facility. Opposition to the data center in your district is opposition to unchecked militarism.

Claiming the excess heat from data centers makes sewage treatment a lot easier is a lot like justifying murder because the gun makes a good hand warmer after you shoot it

Our takeaway is that data centers exist in the context of their environments and exacerbate existing utility and pollution concerns.

What does that mean for us? Longer blackouts after a strong gust of wind? Higher concentrations of pfas? Who knows! It's all under an NDA 🫠🫠🫠

It's really easy to get dunks in with the current news, but don't lose track of what's at stake in your struggle.

For us, it's not just our land, water, and health. It's also our ability to live in a world that prevents genocide and war instead of enabling it through automation.
