"... we never know what our place in a larger lineage of struggle is going to look like. Sometimes, we win. Sometimes, we keep hope and decency alive. Sometimes, we build countercultures that give the next round of resistors a sense of who they are and what they’re made of. All of that matters.
My weekly curated list of must-read articles and some final thoughts for the week. This edition includes some words I shared recently with a brave and thoughtful group of student activists who were feeling rattled by everything that's unfolding in this country.

there have been stories trickling around about ICE raids where they refuse to show warrants. It was mostly being chalked up to hubris and emboldened agents, but now we can see it’s official policy
The Justice Dept. has authorized law enforcement officers to GO INTO PEOPLE'S HOMES WITHOUT SEARCH WARRANTS if they suspect that someone is an "alien enemy"

I talked to @usatoday.com about Attorney General Bondi's "Guidance for Implementing the Alien Enemies Act," links below

Like there is some cool tourist stuff to do in France but by far my favorite stuff was just wandering around and seeing a 850 year old church and you can just walk in, there’s just a guy there. Also the McNuggets had cranberry sauce.

I am honored that the people who make this city run trust me to run this city.

We are on a mission to lower the cost of living for working class New Yorkers, and with the support of the city’s largest municipal union, we are ready to win.

Thank you @dc37nyc.bsky.social

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.
The Department of Homeland Security denied Mahmoud Khalil permission to attend the birth of his first child, who was delivered at a New York hospital on Monday, according to emails reviewed by The New York Times.
Mahmoud Khalil’s Son Arrives After ICE Refuses to Let Him Attend Birth
Mr. Khalil, a permanent resident detained in Louisiana, had requested a monitored furlough for the birth. His request was denied in less than an hour.

Almost every line of this story would have been simply unbelievable a few months ago:

—Pioneering cancer researcher;
—*Arrested* at airport in Boston;
—Now indefinite ICE detention in Louisiana;
—"Crime": not declaring some frog-embryo samples for research.

Read it.

This is important. Food banks can bulk buy, and stretch that money further than you can. They also know what they actually need. Money is better!
I saw advice to buy extra cans of food when you’re at the grocery store to donate to the food bank.

I want to politely nudge you to give the money directly to food banks (or to mutual aid groups if you know of any).

We can usually stretch a dollar farther than a dollar’s worth of canned goods

Another huge ruling! The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals just DENIED the government's motion for a stay in the trans military ban case.

The government CANNOT enforce it's ban on transgender people in the military still.

BIG day for pro-transgender rulings.

1. In a landmark ruling, a federal judge has blocked the passport ban for transgender Americans... government ban likely violates equal protection, and is made with animus.

Though the ruling only applies to plaintiffs, it is expected expand in coming weeks.

Judge Blocks Passport Ban For Plaintiffs, Citing Government Animus And Equal Protection
The federal judge ruled that transgender people's passport changes do not, as the Trump executive order stated, deprive the "dignity, safety, and well-being of women."
