It's sort of vindicating that the worst views on women are made by the worst men. I was right not to care about them.
Going back to Summers' talk about how women don't want to work hard and don't have high end aptitude, we could ask:

What fraction of young men must deal with a creep with substantial power over their career hitting on them using tips from an infamous pedophile? 🤔

Some more good news: the Bengals didn't lose this week!
I’m not going to let the incompetence of our government take away from from the fact that it is very funny Aaron Rodgers is eating shit tonight

The only time this doesn't apply to me is when I play pretend I'm a competent adult. That makes it a game, and I can win games.
God, a thousand times this.

That's the thing with dopamine being tied to task initiation - there's a set of gears that won't - CAN'T - engage in my brain, but none of my problems are with analysis.

I can be fully aware of all the necessary steps, and stressing about starting, and just... not.
10/10 take. No notes.

This gives me more hope than any other election tonight.
BREAKING: Democrat Johnny DuPree has flipped a Republican-held Mississippi Senate district in a special election.

DuPree was previously the mayor of Hattiesburg.

His win imperils the Mississippi Senate GOP's narrow supermajority.

Halloween is the ultimate neighborhood party. I love checking in with everyone. Also, every adult should dress up. Life sucks; wear a costume.

I love kids. I have two of them. They’re amazing. However, kids are the absolute least self aware, clumsiest little puffins on the planet.

Please don’t drive tonight unless you have to, and if you do drive, drive super slow and pay 100% attention at all times.

Happy Halloween! 🎃 👻 💀

I can't find the remote... so I guess Daniel Tiger is just going to play all night because TVs no longer have buttons.

I'm a Bengals fan, and right now I'm reading the news to cheer me up.
A theory. Everyone who cares about politics on bluesky ALSO needs to make a habit out of posting about their other interests and hobbies. Making bluesky work for many communities of interest will increase the political reach of the experts here.

Columbine happened when I was in 8th grade. I'm a teacher now. We have lock down drills regularly and it always leads to a big discussion in class about "what if" scenarios. But do you know what stresses the kids out most on a daily basis? Instagram and TikTok. Phones/social media is the problem.
“when I was young, school wasn’t so tough, it must be the phones that—“

it’s the shootings, dawg. nobody regularly tried to kill us in school. we didn’t have active shooter drills. every kid now has low-grade ptsd from being forced to go somewhere they might die and seeing that adults won’t do shit

When I'm online too late into the night, I almost always end up belting along to Linda Rondstadt.
What's your secret to being online all the time without contracting computer madness? For me it's being pure of heart

Last I checked, Mississippi still had a teacher shortage. My high school, in particular, needs a math teacher. It really is a great job.
My soror shared this note from a university hiring manager. The market isn’t just wrecked. I don’t think this is just a recessionary pullback. 2,000 applications for one higherEd job is 100% a sign of a structural failure. It’s so horrible. I’m sorry.

Watching Jaws and my six year old told me, "tell me when it's the fun part"

What's the fun part?

"When the shark is eating people."

I would pay a large sum of money out of my own pocket to watch the non-NFL flag football team vs. the NFL flag football team in a qualifier to see who represents the US

Looking at the comments, I'm an outlier. I love books, I even love reading outloud, I also like hearing my children read to me. I just don't like reading to my children.
Hmmm...

Disparity: 0-2yr olds being read to every day/nearly every day: 29% of boys; 44% of girls

"HarperCollins said that many parents focus on the literacy element of reading, seeing it as a skill, rather than encouraging a love for reading in their children."
Concerted cultivation side effect?

Report from Nielsen and HarperCollins shows that parents see reading as a literacy skill, rather than something to encourage their children to love

The laziness and lack of curiosity. At least once a week I have to explain to my students that Ai is not a substitute for actual knowledge and critical thinking skills.
Yes, ChatGPT is based on mass theft (all 4 of my books got ripped off!) & its massive energy requirements will destroy the environment.
But we don't talk enough about how it enables the laziness of ppl who can't be bothered to do their own thinking & writing yet expect high salaries & high office.
NEW:

Andrew Cuomo used ChatGPT to help write the housing plan he released this weekend, which included several nonsensical passages. The plan even cites to ChatGPT on a section about the Rent Guidelines Board.

We do not worry about the same things, but it's nice to know I don't have to add anything to my list.
Scary things that you may have recently read headlines about that it turned out you didn’t have to worry about include: microplastics in your brain, black plastic spatulas, intermittent fasting, and plant based meat alternatives.

Also, no, you do not eat a credit card’s worth of plastic a month.

I went to school to teach history, but I didn't want to coach. Now I teach math with lots of mathematical anecdotes sprinkled in.
americans would have a much better grasp of history if most high school history teachers weren't hired to be sports coaches and then given a default subject as an excuse for their salaries

As a woman who is very good at arguing, no one actually cares about the words coming out of your mouth. Speaking is a waste of time. Just protect the people you can.
/8 Platforming propagandists and Nazis is bad — people incapable of good-faith discourse — is bad, actually, and if you are doing it because My Debating Them Will Solve Extremism, you’re a narcissistic tool promoting Nazism.
