Culture, media and intersectional politics in a Scottish context.

There isn't a way things should be. There's just what happens, and what we do.

Unions, renters, campaigners, we worked together to make a fairer housing sector.

We've claimed power back from the landlord lobby, and we're not giving it back!
The Housing Bill, introduced by Scottish Greens, has passed!

✅ Rent controls
✅ The right for renters to keep pets
✅ The right for renters to decorate
✅ Increased council tax on second homes
✅ Support for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness
👇 And more

No. of second homes in Scotland: 21,606

No. of long term empty homes: 46,000

No. of homeless children: 10,360

This is a problem we can solve, if Parliament agrees to my proposals this week.

The BBC should now do the same.

Israel must not be allowed to use Eurovision to whitewash genocide.
Spain votes to boycott Eurovision if Israel competes
Broadcaster RTVE is now the fifth to threaten withdrawal from Eurovision over Israel, following the Netherlands, Ireland, Slovenia and Iceland.

Oh the transphobe allowing party is a boy's club that won't accept women to have a say? Colour me shocked.

It's almost as if all these issues are linked and you can't ignore one just because you think it's worth sacrificing some people's rights to accomplish a larger 'socialist' goal.

I've been saying for ages UK govt needs to wake up to the fact the US has inflicted multiple recessions on Europe and the rest of the world for the past 100+ years.

They have also inflicted multiple investment bubbles on us and left us with the losses.

Internet, I need your help please.

In reply to a Q from @kate-c.bsky.social at Edinburgh council on Thursday, the council leader said "Cllr Day has made an apology through the media" [for incidents catalogued in the Dunion report].

I can't find this apology. Can anyone else?

The problem with “strategic silence” or whatever you want to call it from pro-trans people is that anti-trans people are definitely not being silent. So now we have our first proper position on trans rights from Your Party and it’s this. Well done!
Your Party has got a transphobic MP before they’ve even gotten a name!

In 2001 I married my wife, Sylvia.
In 2005 I started medical transition. (1/13)

the Brexit discourse wouldn’t lead here. There was a British form of exceptionalism in the idea that Brexit itself wasn’t an extreme position given what it meant practically and in terms of signalling. /END

My view back even in the early 2010s was that mainstream British political thinking had been radicalised, because I always saw Brexit as an extremist position given the inevitable upset it was going to cause and the cans of worms it was going to open. It also had a strong xenophobic strain going… /1

It is in fact wild that the actual experts on migration, i.e. service providers, caseworkers, advisors and migrants themselves, are the only people who Downing St is ignoring on migration. Everyone else has a Legitimate Concern, except those Legitimately Concerned.

Peaceful protest is fundamental to our democracy.

Standing up against genocide and famine is fundamental to our humanity.

I've written to the Scottish Government seeking clarification on how they expect Police Scotland to secure our rights to protest & condemn genocide.

Jobcentre sent me a message about a delivery job. 1. I have no license. 2. I have limited capacity for work and work related tasks. 3. Despite this, I already have a full time job.

It has no impact on me, but it's still mildly annoying. Leave me alone, I am doing the best a disabled person can do.

transphobia is sexism

if you have a penis you must have these characteristics
if you have a vagina you must have these characteristics

the more transphobic a person is the more sexist they are

the more sexist a society is the more transphobic it is

this should be obvious but apparently it isn't🙄
