Sometimes when people ask me why I’m wearing a mask I say I’m traveling or have some important thing soon and can’t afford to get sick and miss it and that’s pretty much always true but I think it would be nice if it were more normalized to just say “I don’t want to get sick” and leave it at that

The more democratic elements of the American constitutional and economic order are actually throwing up road blocks to Trumpism. Protests and boycotts and low level courts and juries and cetera. Elite actors on the other hand are all too frequently caving. Fascinating study in who actually cares!

This, to me, is the signal feature of the DC-based Dem consultant class: the caricature of the Dem Party sketched by right-wing media is more real to them than the actual people & organizations that compose the party. They have more frequent & direct interaction with the caricature!

I’d go further. The defining characteristic of this period of the Nuclear Age is not China’s increasing arsenal, or AI or new states wanting nuclear weapons. It is that, for the first time in history 7 of the 9 nuclear-armed states have authoritarian rulers. Including the USA.

This is such an obvious thing for a reporter to do, but can anyone point to a reporter actually doing this? Especially in the US, where reporters simp in front of power, because questioning someone of high social status is considered such a faux pas?
At this point, if you're interviewing a Republican about the president's latest transgression and you *don't* have the video or post or whatever cued up and ready to show them when they pretend they haven't seen it yet -- I'm just going to assume you're in on the con yourself.
