Finished reading @juliagaffield.bsky.social 's biography of Jeans-Jaques Dessalines, one of the founding fathers of Haiti. The book is a story of what Dessalines did versus the way he has been sometimes inaccurately portrayed for political reasons as a bloodthirsty unthinking man unfit to rule. 1/

Bluesky suspended Sarah Kendzior today for no reason whatsoever. She just shared excerpts of her articles, which were as always incisive and not offensive at all. Hey @pfrazee.com this is super not OK. I know her- we've interacted a fair bit via chats and her work is essential.

Can’t sleep. Put on the commentary for Hush.

Fun that the book Kate Siegel’s character has already written and published is Midnight Mass.

anyway if dems think I'm gonna forget this shit in 5 months, they're wrong. if they think I'm gonna forget it in 5 years, they're wrong. they have fully convinced me that purging the party of these inept losers in the senate is more important than retaking the senate in the next election cycle

My hope, because of Mamdani’s win, is that many if the talented, skilled organizers and activists who have eschewed political office, because of the degree Dems have been the barrier to progress in their cities, start looking at his campaign as a blueprint.
The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

Don't normally advocate reposting from X, but "whatever club he's invited to join has been devalued by the invitation" is some Oscar Wilde level shit-talking.

When you really think about the fact that there 450 million guns in this country, the lack of assassinations of politicians speaks pretty highly of how much Americans don’t turn to violence as a political solution.

The hilarious thing here is that “insurance company subsidies” are what Republicans *loved* about the ACA. The ONLY thing they loved. The solution to that is single payer, but they can’t have that, and control access as punishment for marginalized people.
In the most predictable development ever, Mike Johnson is not committing to hold a House vote on ACA subsidies

We’re doing this again, eh? Everything old is new with these fascist dullards. Magnets are so basic a concept, elementary school children can make them with little supervision, but they mystify the president.

I pitched my forthcoming novel, Muñeca, as “Bound meets Mexican Gothic.”

It’s about witchcraft, colorism, guilt, complicity, sapphic lust; queer found family, parental love, sacrifice; the anger of the servant class; the lure – and the limits – of revenge.
