#A2Council concerns about fire safety come up often with new multifamily in Ann Arbor.

Ann Arbor has committed to Vision Zero.

I am not really seeing it front-and-center in our transportation projects, at least not explicitly. In conversations, however, I am assured it is a priority.

Are we afraid to own it? Are we afraid of push-back if we use the specific phrase? #A2Council

“Virtue signalling” is good, actually. It’s how we show others what behaviors we believe to be acceptable in society. “Treat others as you would like to be treated” is virtue signaling.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Americans can’t afford this deal.

Democrats can fight AND win — just like we did in our budget battle in Michigan.

A promise isn’t a deal. Don’t settle.

Have you heard of “The Populist Playbook?”

A few years ago, I posted what I still consider one of my most important messages.

It was about “The Populist Playbook” that I’ve watched play out often over my 33+ years of city planning.

Since then, it’s only gotten worse.

Do the steps sound familiar?

It shouldn’t be forgotten that a big piece of Mamdani’s campaign was simply “cities are cool and lots of people enjoy living in them” which in and of itself dismantles alot of rightwing talking points

It’s really important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of ACTUAL EVIDENCE that they’re better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.

I love Mayor Mamdani’s radical optimism. Not a hollow, saccharine optimism, nor a hopeful, passive optimism, but a courageous optimism. We can dream of better things, and we can make them happen. It’s infectious.

Ann Arbor’s weather comes up constantly in discussions about bike lanes, pedestrian infrastructure, open streets, etc. As Not Just Bikes points out, cities with worse weather than us still have good infrastructure.

After all, you’re not made of sugar.

Under Lansing’s new policy, while price is still the largest factor, safety, training, and a contractor’s track record are also considered.
