BlueSky, especially mutuals: it's been fun to be back the last few days, but I'm going to try to take another approximately month-long break. I really was less anxious & slept better during the last one. Have fun, be careful, & link to my editing services is in bio. 😍

“Maybe we’re onto something.”

An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

So yeah, if you're represented by a Republican in a district that was carried by less than 20 points, tomorrow would be a good day to call and demand that the ACA subsidies continue.
The good news is Republicans in Congress are shitting their pants right about now

Elad is exactly right. Don’t be fooled. Another very important reason not to ignore antisemitism in pro Palestinian spaces
Nick Fuentes has been working overtime to sanitize his image and present himself as a uniter of the left and right. Very clearly using language often associated with the left.

This is part of a larger effort by the anti-Zionist antisemitic far right to recruit people on the left.

My Thanksgiving food take that no one asked for: The sweet-potatoes-with-marshmallows-on-top dish is gross. It is way too sweet to be anywhere near turkey, mashed russet potatoes, green beans, etc. There is cranberry sauce. Serve it for dessert if you want, but wouldn’t you rather have pie?

This week, I have leaned that: 1) even more men, especially Boomers + Gen X, respect women even less than I thought & combine that with ignorance of the workings of institutional misogyny; 2) even more leftists/Zohran bros than I thought don’t care what their Jewish supporters consider antisemitic.+

I am living proof that Rebecca is, once again, correct.
one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.

Look, women no longer do shit for free is actually at the root of a lot of social disruption. The question is whether you think the solution is women going back to being unpaid and unprotected by their own labor.

Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

Good analogy!
My grand unified theory of suburbia is that camera doorbells are like SUVs, they provide an illusion of security while making you more paranoid
“Camera doorbells are social cancer as a technology, breaking down social solidarity and further encouraging people to see strangers with suspicion.”

Wow — Senators Van Hollen, Smith, Murphy, Sanders, Warren, Markey, Merkley, Heinrich have created an official internal "Fight Club."

They're challenging Schumer & Gillibrand's leadership, arguing the party is using an old, corporate-friendly playbook insufficient to take on Trump or win elections.

I read the first 50-ish comments w/o seeing many stories on the hilarity that ensues (if you’re lucky) when part of the family keeps kosher to at least some extent, and the rest of the family definitely doesn’t. People in my family are pretty good cooks, but I’ve got lots of lore re: kosher stuff.
yes, hello, I would like to place an order for everyone’s funniest stories of holiday food-related family grudges / drama / chaotic incidents / lore

And I just got even madder when I realized that these are some of the same people who agreed with Summers’ 2005 comment that intelligence is genetic, not driven by and unequal environment and stereotypes. YOU GUYS DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW.
Not new, but I am enraged at the fact that Larry Summers’ colleagues have no idea how misogyny works. Imagine it’s your job to teach teen and 20-something women, & you don’t understand how someone who believes that a woman could never be his intellectual equal might treat women badly.

Do I know anyone at like WIRED or some other venue that would be interested in a pitch for this?
With 2026 around the corner, I wanna pitch a like 3-5k word feature on the Telecom Act of 96 and what's happened to music and media in the 30 years since then, that's also kinda filtered thru my experience as a music writer who is also class of 96.
