Hmm, maybe installing traffic calming measures and multi-use paths that make intersections less safe, removing photo radar, doing zero traffic enforcement, and never punishing drivers for their crimes was a bad idea...

So beautiful! So jealous! We have some decent few hundred meter active transport bridges in #yeg but this is so much more in every way!
Embodying the principles of directness and attractiveness, Amsterdam’s Nesciobrug—floating 11m above and 780m across the Amsterdam–Rijnkanaal—is the longest non-motorised bridge in the Netherlands, and a shining example of what’s possible when cities don’t allow the car to dictate their priorities.🧵

Requiring cyclists to come to a full stop at stop signs just slows drivers down. I know because I, the canonical rule follower, come to a full stop, and then I have to slowly accelerate when it's my turn. Same with making cyclists dismount to cross the crosswalk - much slower than riding across.

Drivers never look for pedestrians when they leave parking lots. We need raised crosswalks or speed bumps to be standard.

Although it's been a cool and rainy weekend, the forecast for Critical Mass on Saturday looks very similar to last year, and last year was a tonne of fun!

Will you join us again this year, #yegbike?

113 Street and 100 Street (Happy Beer Street) seem to be the best routes and best infrastructure getting added by the $100M. I'm personally very thankful that they were built and that they appear to be done right!
113 st bike lane is 95 percent rideable to Kingsway road.

All intersections are painted. There is a small gap in the MUP near the Lions centre.

We need to make sure we remind elected and non-elected officials every time we see them! 100% of the anti-bike, anti-infill, anti-transit crowd showed up, and they lost badly.

Edmonton wants choice, and those chocies need to be safe, accessible, always-available, and connected.

Yet no one can figure out why downtowns everywhere are struggling.
US downtowns are covered with car parking.

According to this new study, off-street parking takes up:
🔹 20.5% of downtown Dallas
🔹 22.3% of downtown Los Angeles
🔹 31.7% of downtown Tulsa

Denver study shows removing parking requirements results in more affordable housing being built
Structured parking can cost as much as $50,000 per space, making housing more expensive to build and for those living there.

Drivers who go above the speed limit are breaking the law. Must be punished.

Speed cameras: ideal everywhere. 1000s.
Priority: arterials, 4 & 6 lane roads, where bumps cannot be installed.

Neighborhood/schools? Max speed 30 kph everywhere + road diet + bumps. Cameras? After all arterials.
