So beautiful! So jealous! We have some decent few hundred meter active transport bridges in #yeg but this is so much more in every way!
Embodying the principles of directness and attractiveness, Amsterdam’s Nesciobrug—floating 11m above and 780m across the Amsterdam–Rijnkanaal—is the longest non-motorised bridge in the Netherlands, and a shining example of what’s possible when cities don’t allow the car to dictate their priorities.🧵

Requiring cyclists to come to a full stop at stop signs just slows drivers down. I know because I, the canonical rule follower, come to a full stop, and then I have to slowly accelerate when it's my turn. Same with making cyclists dismount to cross the crosswalk - much slower than riding across.
"it’s important to remember that cars are the main structural hazard on our roads" - not people on bikes slowly rolling through stop signs. #roadsafety

Cyclists may be right to run stop signs and red lights. Here’s why
Should cyclists be allowed to treat stop signs as yield signs? This rule from Idaho is divisive, but the scientific data is surprising.

113 Street and 100 Street (Happy Beer Street) seem to be the best routes and best infrastructure getting added by the $100M. I'm personally very thankful that they were built and that they appear to be done right!
113 st bike lane is 95 percent rideable to Kingsway road.
All intersections are painted. There is a small gap in the MUP near the Lions centre.

Speed cameras: ideal everywhere. 1000s.
Priority: arterials, 4 & 6 lane roads, where bumps cannot be installed.
Neighborhood/schools? Max speed 30 kph everywhere + road diet + bumps. Cameras? After all arterials.
