Fiercely interested in cycling safety, safer cities, and riding everywhere I go. Working on a bike-mounted device to reduce the severity and frequency of close passes in cycling.

We're a group of people who love riding bikes, and are fed up with getting passed closely while riding. We're working on a prototype bike-mounted device that will make it harder for cars to close pass you, without looking super dorky. Interested? Please fill out our survey:

This is a fantastic write-up!
My kids were older than hers when I got a cargo bike so I opted for a long tail instead. When there is two of them on there they sing and laugh the whole way, it so cute.
Two Years on a Cargo Bike. @cailynn.bsky.social makes a great point here on e-cargo bikes (and e-bikes in general). Thought of as occasional or recreational use case, they are pricey. The math changes fast however if they start replacing vehicle trips. #yycbike gooutside.substack.com/p/two-years-...

We believe that everyone should have a safe, enjoyable riding experience. Unfortunately, most cities (at least in NA) have poor cycle infrastructure and people don't feel safe.

After getting close-passed one too many times we decided to build a device to address this.

Someone in the survey today told us we had not included a category in our "what type of riding do you do?" question - so we added it!

Hard agree on this! Again and again studies show that physical separation for modes of transport make it safer for *everyone*

A+ we're just getting started and every little bit helps!!
If you see a post from a 1-person micro business (even if only a sideline business) give them at least a repost?

Those people are working hard to make a success, and usually have FAR higher ethical values than corporations.

How hard is it for you to do a repost?

Here is a shot of one an internal component, fresh off the 3D printer. The tree-looking parts on the outside are support to ensure the lip prints properly without sagging. The support breaks away cleanly, and the printed part is strong letting us use it in functional testing. #bikesky #prototype

We're currently workshopping and prototyping a device to reduce close-passes by drivers for those of us on bikes.

If you're a #cyclist #urbanist #bikecommute #BikeToWork or frequent rider we'd love to hear from you!

We're lucky that our city has a lot of good multi-use pathways and that we can bike safely for recreation. I'm taking the kids out for a ride today and who knows where we'll end up!
