My first apartment was a townhome with a loft in the San Antonio Medical Center. My rent was $400 in 1998. When I left Texas in 2012 (for good), my rent was $450 for a spacious MIL cottage near downtown San Antonio. My apartment rent in NW DC in 2012 was over $2k.
