One of the most bizarre-looking insects at @tapirvalley.bsky.social is the Leistotrophus versicolor, a species of rove beetle that feeds on tapir dung.

The first time I saw one of these, I thought I had discovered an alien.

Absolutely every scientist involved in the book this post is lampooning should be ashamed of themselves. Instead, I bet they'll write more propagandist pablum about how the current situation is a consequence of injecting politics into science discourse post-2020 & how they were right all along
Trump has slashed the NIH and NSF budget, hired an anti-vaxxer as head of Health and Human Services, and filled the government's web page with crazed conspiracy theories. Here's why we just published a volume on the left's war on science.

Did butterflies invent the solar panel? A few springs ago, I saw this marble butterfly (Euchloe sp.) land on the desert floor, then tilt its wings at an angle exactly perpendicular to the sun - like a motorized solar array - to efficiently warm up on a chilly morning (Mojave Desert, California). 🐙🌿

Japanese netizens are shocked by a tweet from the US Embassy declaring that Japanese people applying for non-immigrant visas must provide information on all social media accounts they have used in the last 5 years [or their visas could be rejected].

Just delivered a dozen or so Chalcoscirtus nuggets to GB Edwards for science (he's planning on revising the genus or their placement in it soon) this past weekend. I'm always a little stressed when they're in my care, it's difficult to feed creatures so tiny. Glad to know they're in good hands. 🖤

I know my warnings about something like ignoring administrative law notice-and-comment requirements may sound trite. But attacks on *that kind* of democracy makes attacks on *this kind* of democracy much, much easier.
Constituents were forcibly removed from a town hall meeting held by Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Tuesday and officers used a stun gun on at least two of the men. Listen as they drag one of the men out and he says, "is this really happening?"
