The basis trade is a fixed income arbitrage trade which seeks to profit from the spread between cash bonds and futures.

What's a cash bond? It's USTs. For example, the current 10y Treasury note is a 4 5/8ths % coupon bond maturing in February 2035.

S&P 500 bear markets (20% declines) over the past 50ish years. Every single one has seen multiple 2%+ gains over its course. COVID was the shortest, and was ended by *massive* policy intervention. For context, through y'day we were ~7 weeks in to a decline of 17.6% & this is our second 2%+ day.
