political norms are not just completely useless they are deeply harmful because they always end in the worst people acting with impunity while everyone else goes 'oh my goodness well nothing we can do that would violate the rules that don't exist really'
I mean very obviously Hegseth should resign, and if it were a Democratic administration this would be quickly be a consensus position.

It all came around. People just didn't want to acknowledge this country's original sins, that of genocide and slavery- it continued domestically and in foreign policy with every president, but there was always a chance to fix it and do much better. Liberals looking away from Gaza brought us to this.

The are normalizing detaining and disappearing dissidents in the same way they have normalized almost all of their fascist intent by targeting individuals and groups at the fringes in an effort to chill and terrorize those who may be thinking of pushing back in the future.
