Just to add to this - social media has broadly incentivized quote and dunk culture for engagement. This is usually pretty toxic and has trained people to seek out conflict, even amongst potential allies.
I see a lot of people being like "what's the deal with the deranged bluesky elders" and basically it's that in the before times there were a lot of people who made it their mission to drive people they didn't like off the platform & that's how they got their following

my second hot take is that all Will Stancil discourse could be resolved by making a website with a little dial that swings back and forth between "Will Stancil is right" and "Will Stancil is wrong" depending on his last hundred posts
My hot take is that Will Stancil is often right (and there are people that legitimately bully him), but he's also incapable of acknowledging when he's wrong and is combative with everyone that disagrees with him in a way that undermines whatever point he's making

When I was in seventh grade, my history teacher organized a school-wide World War simulation similar to the board game Diplomacy. We each started with a set amount of resources that could be used to win wars or pledged to other teams to support their wars.
