Trump to Pat McAfee: "I'm only joining you because I hear you say such nice things about me. When people say nice about me, I join. When they don't say nice about me, I take a pass."

If I had explain American history in one sentence, I could do worse than "John Brown was hung for treason, but Robert E. Lee was not."
John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry began on this day in 1859.

Not gonna link the troll but Bari Weiss clearly represents “thought police” more than 100,000 Bluesky leftists scolding you for writing a defense of Weiss ever will, and ignoring that reality is clearly designed to curry the favor of thought police. You’re not a free thinker, you’re the boot licker.

Today is the one-year anniversary of the last home game for the Oakland A's. 2025 has been a nightmare year in general, though I can't help but think it might've been a little better with the hometown team still here. My ode to the Oakland A's from last year: www.nytimes.com/athletic/575...
The Oakland A’s are leaving. What I’ll carry with me after 4 decades as a fan
There is a saying, "Oakland against the world," that speaks to what it has meant to be an A’s fan.

Bidens legacy is doing nothing after J6. Even the GOP couldn't believe they got away with it. Literally the biggest (not only) reason we are swimming in shit today is because Democrats were too scared to follow and enforce the law as it was written.
Can call it cowardice, and it is, but regardless of how they react to it, a Congress operating under and influenced by the coercive threat of violence, as they now have been for several years, is fundamentally lacking in democratic legitimacy, it is something less than a representative legislature.
Democrats voice fears of violence over Charlie Kirk vote: "Ugliest meeting I've ever seen"
One member "point blank" expressed the view that there could be violent repercussions "because of our not being together."

In the 2010s, this country's elites were thrown onto social platforms with everyone else and could finally read what we all think about them and it caused them so much psychic damage that they decided to destroy both the internet and democracy to make sure nothing like it ever happened again.
If this is what it took for you to be pushed into fascism you were probably already there

I gave my heart and soul to that place. Built entire sections for journalists pushed out of their home countries.

When the writer I hired, Jamal Khashoggi was murdered by Saudi Arabia, they paraded me around as a symbol for press freedom.

I put MY LIFE on the line to defend journalism and WaPo.
weird that neither of these articles two main stories decrying censorship mention WaPo's firing of @karenattiah.bsky.social I guess democracy really does die in darkness

if the democratic party were led by van hollen instead of chuck schumer or hakeem jeffries right now democratic party approval rating would fly through the roof

This is not a joke. This is not normal.

usually if you ask experts why an empire fell they’ll say it’s nuanced and multifaceted, so i think it’s kind of cool that with America future historians will get to just say like “oh they took the idiot train to moronsville”

Turns out that NPR and PBS' pandering to the right still didn't save their funding. Maybe there's a lesson here for media that think that tilting to the right will spare them from accusations of "liberal bias."
The rescission bill has passed the Senate. Once it passes the House, as expected, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's budget will be zeroed out for the first time since 1967, back when TV stations still broadcast in black and white.

There are no distractions. It's all bad. Systematically stripping trans people of their rights, guys in balaclavas shoving any brown person with a tattoo into a ummarked vans, ending healthcare for millions. It's all in service of fascism and technofeudalism. It's all one thing. That's the point.
