The social media ban for kids exists in a much bigger landscape of both policy and technical infrastructure: your digital identity.

Here, have some actual facts. As written by me.

Digital ID policy fails you, your kids, and the country
Radically secure digital identity infrastructure is up and running in Europe right now. But not here, in Australia.

I will never coin a phrase that apposite in my life. Never.

In awe.

‘Peri-apocalypse’
Preparing for the peri-apocalypse
K.I.S.S. with rough numbers.

This solar panel is about $100.

It will make 1000 watt-hours of energy per watt-installed, annually, in the Midwest.

It will provide fuel for about 1,000 miles of travel...

... which is +/- same as $100 of gas.

Doctors. This is (as I am sure you know all too well) an absolutely real phenomenon and the observations the antivaxxers collectively have about bias in medicine are spot on.

The conclusion that therefore this one wildly effective health intervention is dangerous, though, that’s just not true.

Years ago (2022?) I challenged myself to try to understand the antivaxxers because I didn’t get it, to the extent that it seemed like an opinion that could not even have an internal logic.

It *does* have an internal logic, which rotates around women’s health being roundly ignored and dismissed by

Unsurprisingly im pretty keen on the mechanics of mis and dis information (mis is more interesting). It’s very rare that there’s nothing to it, but not in a ‘no smoke without fire’ sense - the bit that isn’t wrong is often very peripheral. Vaccine hesitancy/rejection springs to mind

Another problem we are yet to collectively grapple with is that QAnon was right about a lot of stuff

I hate that so much

I can barely claw my way out of cultural and class bias enough to say it but QAnon weren’t wrong about the ring of elite child abusers trafficking children with impunity
January 31, 2026 at 11:37 AM
I mean the bias of ‘serious’ people is cultural bias
January 31, 2026 at 11:35 AM
I use < > in lieu of an apposite adjective, that’s as close as I can get for now
January 31, 2026 at 11:34 AM
I get <flustered> by the way in which the people who designate themselves serious commentators intentionally avoid knowledge of stuff like this because it isn’t within the criteria they have collectively agreed are serious, ie it’s cultural

I too hate this
I hate that this is all just easy to piece together from this guy's poorly-spelled emails

“/pol/ was created after moot met with jeffrey epstein” is maybe the single most cursed true sentence I have ever had the displeasure of writing

“Epstein plausibly responsible for /pol” is too much for me

The people who invented rickrolling also drove us into this wall. It shouldn’t be true, but it is.
January 31, 2026 at 5:12 AM
Oh Jesus

/pol/ was created *the day* moot met Epstein.

If that sounds unimportant to you, check the thread for why it matters. And I swear to God, is you dismissed pol, 4chan, and gamergate as unimportant online bun fights, your opinion about the rise of fascism is wrong.

Because you’re ignorant.
I have, for years, talked about how I spent the late aughts on 4chan, and I've been watching the worst people from there take over the world.

And.

He's.

He relaunched /pol/ after meeting with Epstein.

It's been fucking /pol/ this entire fucking time fucking fuck.

It was anyone with features that could both be assessed as data and that existed outside the parameters determined to be acceptable by the people who had the power to make that determination, and it will be this time too.

Interrogating the census records using Herman Hollerith’s analysis machines (tested on the US census of 1897) was how they found the Jews.

Also murdered: Seventh Day Adventists, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Romany, Communists, Homosexuals, Disabled people, and a range of others. That’s the 5 million.
January 27, 2026 at 9:20 AM
Saying anything about the Holocaust feels like diminishing the Holocaust and yet, we must.

Of the many technologies invented for or refined for the Holocaust data analysis, especially of census records - using new American statistics and American tabulating machines - is one of the most pivotal.
January 27, 2026 at 9:16 AM
I honestly thought eugenics (absolutely rife in tech bro culture and *you should know*) would be my least acceptable interest but the failure of historical memory around the Holocaust - directly related - is coming in fast.

6 million Jews, 5 million people who weren’t Jews. 11 million total.
