With all the new faces here, I figured I'd also say hi and reintroduce myself. I am a professor of physics, astronomy and earth science, among other things, but most of what you'll get from me are photos of our immensely beautiful planet. Sharing that beauty is my passion; we're so lucky to be here.

I can't stop thinking about how any group of racist, power-hungry men can just put on vests they bought online and wander around, taking people off of the streets into unmarked SUVs to who knows where. Masks, no warrants, no IDs/badges, unmarked vehicles, etc. No accountability.
I just watched two women get kidnapped right in front of me in Northeast Minneapolis.

The stunning Coffeepot Crater - the site of one of Oregon's most recent volcanic eruption (~3200 years ago) - with a large hole in the lava field from the collapse of a lava tube. Just behind the crater, on the right, are smaller spatter cones that formed along the fissure. #Photography

I will never get over that, OTD 5 years ago, he was not immediately thrown in jail where he belongs for the rest of his miserable life. The fact that he was allowed to run again is a fucking disgrace, and even moreso that people elected him again anyways. I'll never forgive it.

There's a LOT of reasons why I hate generative AI, and a big one is the fact that I have to repeatedly tell my Mom, who is in her mid 70s, that what she is excitedly showing me isn't real.
