If you read only one thing this week, this is it. Multiple jaw drops 😳

“even under an optimistic ‘low’ emissions climate scenario, the earliest the climate might stabilize is in the mid-2070s” and weather patterns are already locked in to growing increasingly more extreme for the next 50-100 years.

An inauthentic account will often say MOSTLY things you agree with. This creates a feeling of “we are on the same team”

And then when the time is right, they start slipping in their ACTUAL message—whether it’s disinformation or propaganda or creating instability

I must question if these defense contractors are reliable partners for the US.

CEO fantasizes about spraying fentanyl-laced piss on analysts. Founder defends illegal boat strikes because they're "masculine."
Not to mention all the things Peter Thiel is up to.

Because of Brexit, the UK GDP is 6–8% lower than it would have been, business investment is 18% lower than in comparable economies, and both employment and productivity are around 4% lower. Can’t wait to see in a decade how Trump has damaged the US economically.
The economic cost of Brexit has just been laid bare – and it’s devastating

Indeed. It's also bleakly funny seeing people go 'this is harmful for teenagers' (a sentiment with a fairly limited evidence base) who have obviously cooked their brains online to the point that they cannot grasp the really simple 'we should probably ban the problematic parts of this for everyone'.
And experiencing them age 17, 47 or 77 is also bad!

The arrogance of "Definitely keep it away from the kids, but lets not think about what it does to adults" is very funny to see on the* "adults who have had their brains cooked by social media site"

Sort of gives away the lie that they're arresting hardened criminals who are drags on society when they're setting up traps to lure in Good Samaritans
CCTV footage appears to show DHS agents posing as people having car trouble in order to lure a target out of his house before arresting them. The target comes out and starts helping them before 3 vehicles surround the scene. The car "experiencing" trouble then drives off with them.

🧵I watched Forbidden Planet last night. Hadn't seen it for decades. A super-intelligent race is destroyed, despite its technological advances, by its own subconscious primitive fears and greed, 'the monster of the ID'. Hashtag AI, etc.
Anyway, couldn't help but notice how the film influenced others.

Obviously this is where I also sing the praises of the blessed bookshop.org (they also exist in the US), for people who LIKE TO READ but can’t leave the house. Home delivery! A % of profit to the actual bookshop of your choice! No Bezos! What’s not to love?

The truth is billionaires just can't care about lesser people. The traits that lead them to such wealth are not compatible with empathy, compassion, or basic human decency.
Former Washington Post journalists have launched a GoFundMe to help repatriate fired staff members who are effectively stranded in foreign countries.

One of the richest men in the world fired them from the paper and didn’t even pay to ensure they got home.

Those are extremely worrying red lines and mean that Canada and Europe can't just go back to treating the US as a natural ally.
And the trend goes both ways, by the way.

The US government is telling Americans to hate Europeans and Canadians. And many have dutifully changed their opinions.
