The three others arrested and indicted with Don Lemon were also Black people. I saw many non-black journos outside who weren't arrested, but they came to do the same job.

How they come for the Black journos first, will be how they learn how to successfully come for non-white journos. #MarkMyWords
the federal government is arresting journalists not only without a warrant but after being explicitly denied a warrant

i wonder what our freedom of speech warriors like Matt Taibbi and Bari Weiss have to say about this

While work requirements are indeed the devil's baculum & it's good to spread the word against means testing, the detached quote below makes it seem like a lot more money is being diverted than is.
I will simply never recover from reading this sentence:

"Since Georgia implemented work requirements in 2020, they have spent twice as much on Deloitte consultants and administrative costs as on healthcare for people."
Today, Luke Farrell (@lukef.bsky.social) explains how complex eligibility requirements have turned America’s safety net into a lucrative revenue stream for monopolistic private contractors.

EU nations have been doing great work to end dependence on US tech companies, while also advancing open source and open protocols.

Last year France and Germany mandated use of Matrix-based communication tools within their public sectors, after many years of use. Adios, Teams, Slack, and Zoom!

Fun fact: Republicans made the first permit requirements for carrying firearms in California. Reagan got it done because white people were afraid of the Black Panthers.

"Gun rights" have never been meant for people of color, the poor, or anyone else not in the oppressive class.
GOP spokespeople this week have said that if you carry a gun you are a valid target, and that if you are where the police are you are a valid target.

I would say something about GOP hypocrisy, but I'm old enough to remember Ronald Reagan pulling this same shit.
It's as if she already sold her soul.

Planning out our year with all of this going on in our country is wild.

ICE murdered Renée Good in broad daylight. Less than 3 weeks later, they killed Alex Pretti, shooting him 10 times. Every day, we watch as people are ripped from their cars, their homes, their lives.

We can't allow ourselves to look away from this cruelty. Abolish ICE.

Everything they learned in Minnesota they’re applying in Maine from day one. They started off doing fast-moving snatch and grabs on the street, recording and using facial id on observers, and threatening observers directly. They’ll do it all where you live too.
Why is the msm outside of Maine not covering this? It seems like a huge and very troubling story to me. ICE coming to observers houses or calling them on the phone warning them to back off??!! www.pressherald.com/2026/01/23/i...

Y'all are so close. When you can let go of this false notion of American government as the paragon of rule (and stop excusing its faults as some anthropomorphized mistake and acknowledging them as systematic and collaborated intentions), we're going to *actually* win.

If you've never been through secondary immigration* (at an airport, which is likely the least-bad place), it's definitely eye-opening.
now just imagine how border patrol brutalized people at the border when all cameras were not trained on them

It's worth noting that ICE and CBP shot more of those vulnerable neighbors *in-between* Good and Pretti. And yet...

You know what nevermind.

Needless to say that Renee Good and Alex Pretti will go down as heroes here in Minnesota and nationally, their names synonymous with sacrifice and caring for vulnerable neighbors even at the risk of your own life. And hopefully no more innocent lives are lost.

I've been studying the history of US, and indeed, global policing my whole career and I can't make it more clear to law makers that this isn't a bastardization of policing, it is its purest form and logical conclusion. The impunity, militarization, deference, legitimacy, racial targeting, etc.

I think a lot of us get hope wrong. Hope, I do not believe, is an emotion. In fact, hope makes space for lots of emotions to exist alongside it. You can DO hope scared, angry, sad etc...

Hope doesn't find us. We make hope through action and struggle. It's a practice of living and is re-made daily.
