Welp, one of my long-time Trumpiest former students just posted this, so I think we can put a fork in this administration.

hey I like that we're all posting thru it but I also wanted to say, in case anybody else is feeling it, that I'm pretty scared and genuinely think that we've passed a real rubicon in the past week or so and that being at the mercy of a handful of dumbfuck lunatics really does a number on your soul.

The Westing Game was assigned reading in 6th grade, and I finished the whole thing in one weekend. So I brought one of my Agatha Christie paperbacks to school and got the teacher's permission to read that during assigned reading time instead. As sixth graders do.
If you are only now learning about THE WESTING GAME, written by Ellen Raskin in 1979 & winner of a Newbery Medal, find it and read it NOW.

It's the best puzzle mystery novel ever, and is illustrated and typeset by Raskin herself (who started as an illustrator and book cover designer)

I like that the same day a guy was like “this place will never be Twitter” this thread gave us the most 2015 Twitter experience (complimentary) imaginable.
I just woke up from a nap and somehow while I was asleep, everyone on the bus has figured out we are not going to the right place

Angry Sun = pretty skies! If you're in a position to do so, it's worth looking for some aurorae with this one!
MUST READ thread before Monday night's forecasted G4 / SEVERE geomagnetic storm. Auroras could be seen as far south as the U.S.-Mexico border at times. Widespread mid-latitude displays are possible. Here's what you need to know to have a successful aurora chase tonight! 🧵

It's particularly galling to call for ICE to wear body cams when Renee Good's murder literally recorded the whole thing on his phone. He was so confident in his impunity as part of that organization that he recorded and allowed for the release of footage of him shooting a woman at point blank.

I had a car that was older than ICE. We got rid of it. Life went on.
I'm just going to point out that ICE is about 23 years old. It was formed as part of the response to 9/11 and was reactionary, performative, and racist from the start.

Its not eternal. This is not a thousand-year Reich.

Texas A&M decided to publicly cancel my Ethics class, and share a false statement that I declined to provide information, which made it impossible for [them ] to request an exemption. See for yourself, if this statement is true.

They are getting creative!

I will never forget the year it hit -40 windchill and the governor shut down the state because seriously, YOU WILL DIE REALLY FAST.

Can’t wait for ICE to experience it.
To any ICE agents reading this who are from down south—you have never experienced anything like this cold. Our European climate equivalent is literally Stalingrad. It will hurt to breathe. You will be outside in it. So will we, but we are used to it.

Next week is what will break you.
We've lead charmed weather lives so far in January.
Temperatures are +5F to +10F across MN so far this month. 🌡️
We're about to be reminded what persistent cold and occasional snow feels like. ❄️
MSP could bottom out -10 to -20 next Tue.

Pssst: Because of your support for indies & love for audiobooks, we were able to pay our bookshop partners 80% more in 2025 than the prior year❗

We also became a B Corp, fought book bans, raised $55k for libraries, launched a web player (y'all LOVE listening at work), & more—all because of you.

when you are asked to imagine a world without ICE, you're basically being asked to remember where you were when Lilo & Stitch came out

My latest book The Starseekers is out today! And in a twist it’s oddly topical despite being set in the 1960s.

NASA, student protests, humans vs computers, education, PBS, and museum heist are a few themes I can easily match to current headlines.

Which makes it’s fun and very interesting 😅!

I was in college during the first Iraq war and remember people coming back from ROTC meetings and suddenly shouting at anyone with brown skin. One guy walked up to a hallmate he'd just had dinner with that day and said "I'm not going to be friends with a fucking towelhead."

Do not sign up.
from someone who was in school for the beginning of the "war on terror," please. please please please. talk to teenagers in your life about not joining the us military. about not letting themselves be groomed by recruiters in schools. they're going to want soldiers, and they always start young.
