Alternatives to NY Times Games & Puzzles 🧵

If it bothers you that your passive games subscription and clicks to the NYT Games cartel is funding their awful OpEd army and "journalism," there are a wealth of puzzle/game options less iffy/yikes complicit, and many are direct clones to your NYT faves.

Posted this and didn't realize it was Marty's birthday. Happy birthday to Martin Scorsese!
QUIZ SHOW has a knockout performance by Martin Scorsese as the CEO of Geritol (who sponsors the game show). His monologue foretelling the future of television is outstanding.

Amazing that Scorsese was directed by Robert Redford 👀 youtu.be/Vaw0ut44JQg?...

Dialogue from the movie QUIZ SHOW where Charles van Doren confesses to his father that the show is rigged and that Charles was cheating.

The slippery slope that he describes as he powerslides into full cheatery is identical to anyone you hear who uses ChatGPT and starts small but ends up big.

It's funny when a something gets called out for using AI and the culprits claim it was a localized, one-time use only.

If you replace "AI" with "cheating," it follows that they wouldn't have cheated just the once, because cheaters who cheat do it early and often once they cross that threshold

Hearing the NYT Epstein piece by Shawn McCreech is good, actually, b/c his dewy, sepia tone is *intentionally* ironic about the subject.

Problem is that NYT white dudes writing "ah the halcyon days of bros before ho's" diminishes structural & historical context, and isn't speaking truth to power.

I woke up to that disgusting Vaseline-lensed NYT essay about how the world of Epstein was a long-ago different time when male power bonds emerged according to the ancient affective paradigms of NYC, lost in the mist of #metoo and I am desperate to know why no […]

NYT Editor: You write that Epstein piece that wistfully upholds the patriarchy?

NYT Writer: Sure did boss, real fuckin sexy just like you asked.

Why would anyone even mildly defend sex trafficking or saying that the 'optics' aren't good for Democrats to lean harder on the Epstein files? (Rhetorical question imo)

What I want to say about Alice is this: we have not decided as a society that we want people like her to live as human beings. Currently, the regime under which she lived & died is closing off the elements that made her extraordinary life possible. Her work is literally being erased.
She was extraordinary, and extraordinarily generous. Alice Wong: I am so grateful to have been alive in her lifetime. She was one of our species' best. She deserved better. My her legacy be for a blessing.

Our beloved Alice Wong has joined the ancestors. It was one of the great honors of my life to call Alice my friend, co-author & co-conspirator. She was a true genius, a force of nature the likes of which the world has never seen before. I love you, Alice, and am equal parts grateful and devastated

You were incredible, Alice Wong, and it was a blessing to have collaborated with you on projects, to have read your words and to have heard your voice, as full of life and passion and joy and rage as it was.

You made a difference—so much of a difference.

Rest always in peace, and always in power.

I'm not deeply invested in the new Netflix animated film "In Your Dreams" but I'm glad it's getting positive reviews, because my first exposure to it were these soulless, lifeless subway poster ads in NYC that don't compel you to run right home and watch it.
