Finished knitting Thursday night and made/attached the tassels last night. I was so excited that I took the photo before I trimmed the tassels, lol.

Trump is dining with top Wall Street executives at the White House tonight — just months after giving them a huge tax cut in his Big Ugly Bill.

Meanwhile, his regime is continuing to withhold SNAP benefits for millions of hungry Americans.

Glad this story is finally public but also incredible that it is taking media so long to dig up what is essentially open knowledge in these communities rn.

Still thinking about this story. Imagine how cooked your brain has to be on Fox News -- how terrified you have to be, every day in your isolated suburban castle -- to start *shooting* when you see brown people at your door, before the door is even open. We're such a nation of terrified cowards.
Cleaning worker who mistakenly went to wrong home fatally shot: Police
The shooting victim died from a gunshot wound to the head, the coroner's office said.

It's really incredible how the norm against the deployment of the military against Americans at home has completely degraded. What this man is describing is a flagrant violation of Posse Comitatus.
Rep. Pat Harrigan: "I have asked Josh Stein, our governor, to consider working with President Trump to allow the National Guard to come into Charlotte ... use the National Guard as a force multiplier and they can a lot of load off the Charlotte PD."

As I anticipated, got a democratic fundraising call this morning. I didn’t even let them start reading the script. I politely interrupted them, said I was not donating to the Democrats right now, thank you and good bye. Click.

Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

It really does seem like there's a decent chance that these senators screwed us because they don't want their personal Thanksgiving plans to be disrupted.
Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

Trump is 30 points underwater. Dems swept the special elections. People know the GOP is responsible for the shutdown. So the Dem Senators pulled out their big guns... and shot themselves in the foot.

Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

The politics of the shutdown:
*GOP had a strong opening position
*Undercut themselves with the RIFs and unnecessary cuts to blue states/SNAP
*Polls showed GOP getting most of the blame, no reason to assume that would change
*Dem centrists then folded on their key issue of ACA subsidies

One of the talking points I keep seeing from Democrats is that part of the deal is that it will "ensure federal workers receive back pay" but that's the existing law!

That's not something you've won in negotiations. That's just the letter of the law. You don't get to claim that as a win.

I feel sorry for the first Democratic fundraiser who reaches me after tonight’s vote - especially if they’re calling on behalf of the DSCC.

I don’t know why I thought this time was different. Total Lucy and Charlie Brown with the football scenario.

Not disagreeing with Sahil. But absurd for Team Cave to present full SNAP funding as part of a deal since that’s automatic if the govt reopens.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:

—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.

Insulating Republicans from consequences is never the answer
Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.
