we know about fluoridated water because it’s found in natural springs and sometimes people living near specific springs had nicer teeth and we used science to make everyone’s water as good as the special spring water by putting exactly the right amount of natural magic rocks in it

Can we stop debating the “worth” of other people? Whenever we debate a person’s value, we lend credibility to the idea that some people are “less than”. Expendable. Worthless.

Fascism preys on that notion.

We need to agree that everyone is worth protecting. No one should get left behind.

As a historian, I can confirm she’s 100% right. And I know most of my colleagues understand this, but don’t want to believe it. In 5-10 years they’ll be writing books about it.🥴

“Objectivity” as the “view from nowhere” is a helluva drug.
What people are ignoring is that ignoring the ongoing pandemic is a primary driver of the fall
Of the republic/rise of fascism. They’re completely intertwined and u can’t dismantle fascism while also promoting eugenics and pandemic denial. I hope u stay safe out there in CO, I know things are rough

Revenue at Duolingo in 2024 was up 41% on 23 to $748M. Net income was up by 451% for same period and yet they're firing workers. We've long been at "insatiable greed" point of late stage capitalism. People may feel helpless but there's a very easy way to kick companies like this. Delete their apps.
I have completely deleted my Duolingo. I was informed by one of my kids that the company has removed most of its employees and 70% of the company is run by AI.

I urge everyone to delete their app.
Duolingo CEO says he's getting rid of contract employees and replacing them with AI
Duolingo employees can also expect their AI use to be graded in their performance reviews.

Burley Oaks Primary is where this begins.

If 1 in 5 of our 5,300 followers donates £1, we raise £1,000—enough to bring clean air to six classrooms.

£7 each? We hit our goal and show why every school deserves this.

3 week update since arriving in Ireland- we're getting keys to our townhouse today! We are super lucky to find a rental that would allow us to bring our cat. We've been living in a wonderful airbnb that has a massive blooming cherry tree, but we're ready to get settled.

Happy Bealtaine!

First two weeks of immigrating to Ireland and so far so good. Food is wonderful, locals are kind, and my sourdough starter survived the journey. We were approved for a rental that allows cats! Very happy to be rebuilding our life after so many years of anticipating for this adventure

to introduce myself here on BlueSky. My book 'Wild Embrace' is a celebration of nature in Ireland. In it I hone in on a selection of habitats & wild animals; explore symbiosis in nature; and examine how we interact with our environment, through ancient beliefs, folklore & more recent cultural frames

Trump, RFK Jr & Dr Oz want to convince people that chronic illness is avoidable. That a “healthy lifestyle” will ensure you never become disabled. They want to blame the sick so they can eliminate them.

Don’t fall for it. Disability isn’t a choice or a moral failing. It can happen to anyone.

The alleged harms of school closures are overstated in comparison to the harms of COVID.

There’s learning loss, but the connection to reopening policies isn’t that strong.

There’s mental health stuff, but suicides and ER visits dropped during closures.

Death and disability tho are tangible.

I know I am only a humble speech pathologist, but for the professional record I reject everything that RFK says or will say about autism, and it’s important to recognize what he’s really saying is that to be neurodiverse is worse than to be dead

Authoritarian states happen step by step, then all at once. But you couldn't get to this point from a healthy, functional state.

Black folks, Indigenous people, etc have been trying to tell you **based on our lived experience** that "regular" US politics & overt fascism are siblings, maybe twins.

Going to be careful about how I word this, for obvious reasons:

If anyone tries to take you, someone you know, or even just in front of you to a secondary location, DO NOT go. DO NOT let it happen.

You/they may not come back. This is always true, but especially now.

More outrageously condescending “coverage” from @theatlantic.com that paints people who want to avoid infection with a virus known to damage brains, hearts, and immune systems—as kooky “eccentrics.”

2-4% chance of a tornado, 10% chance of 2"+ hail here in WA. While the odds are low, just seeing these potential risks show up is unsettling. Not a lot of basements out here for shelter.

I just keep going back to AOC’s statement: anyone born from 1980 on has never known a functional government with a healthy oppositional party.

The hope that Republicans will “come around” is a generational divide, and after the last 10 years, a delusion.
A lot of delusion happening in that Schumer NYT interview, but this gets to the heart of it: he believes his Republican colleagues will come around and everything will be ok. Absolutely delusional.
