Farm workers are as much as 35 times more likely to be killed by heat than any other civilian occupation.

It's not just AI being used to build software, it's that the large models being trained require huge data pools in the cloud.

It's like putting a bunch of gold in a castle and then having little to nothing guarding it.

And then anyone can copypasta their own shitty castle.
For 15 years, I watched brilliant and caring people desperately attempt to avert the privacy and data security apocalypse that’s upon us - which has now been massively exacerbated by dumbass-enabling AI tools.

They did their best, not enough people listened, and now, well, God help us all.
We are going to spend the next few years finding out exactly *why* it was a horrible idea to unleash a tsunami of vibe-coded apps made by idiots and scammers on an unprepared world.

Welcome to the Entirely Foreseeable AI Consequences Era.

Listen: they make it difficult if not impossible to mitigate the pandemic they refuse to address, which disables you. You can’t work&lose yr job, thus your insurance, so can’t afford the medical help you desperately need. You wrack up credit&medical debt trying, until you cant afford your home—then?

I see grocery/takeout shaming discourse going around again, so this is your periodic historian reminder that cooking from scratch daily while working has never been sustainable, and for millennia everyone either relied on takeout & restaurants or ate in huge households w/ big dorm-like group dining.

Best Governor Wisco has had in my lifetime.

He was just in central Wisconsin celebrating removal of 1000 lead pipes in Wausau. The amount of travel and events he does would be rough for anyone, but he's 73.

So grateful for everything he's done for Wisconsin.
Democrat Tony Evers will not seek a third term as governor of Wisconsin, setting the stage for another competitive gubernatorial race in the midterms.

The Minnesota shooter apparently used data broker websites to find the home addresses of the people he shot and murdered.

Congress has had years to do something about data brokers and they've sided with the tech lobby over and over again.

Their inaction is deadly.

A number of stories of companies replacing workers with AI are simply CEOs putting a positive tech spin on cost cutting.

It’s telling that instead of stories of how AI enables companies to do more, we mostly hear about AI enabling companies to do the same (or lower quality work) with fewer workers.

My rent has increased 40% since I moved into my apt in 2020.

I'm currently moving out and the next tenant will pay 40% more than I'm currently paying, because the income restricted program is ending.

80% higher rent. It has almost doubled.

I'm pretty sure billionaires understand what they're doing.

Trump is a symptom, not a cause. It's convenient to have a figurehead that draws attention away from everyone else.
I just really need everybody to understand that everything that’s happening in and to the global economy now (and all the businesses and people in it) is the entirely predictable result of the intentional decisions of one guy who doesn’t understand how the global economy works.
