It was the worst of times, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Darkness, it was the winter of despair
Another thing about this of course is that people will be like "Well the Democrats can't actually stop anything" and even if true that is simply not a good excuse for continuing to give votes to anything Republicans do, as if the moral case didn't make itself even if you can't outvote them
I know people believe that the Democrats are in the minority and can't do anything. I would encourage you to read about how, in fact, minority parties can be disruptive. If they want to be. You don't even have to read. You can just see how the Republicans acted during the Obama years.

Gee I can only imagine what sort of nonconsensual Grok pornography these terms are intended to cover
PSA: twitter, X, is doing new terms of service that basically make it so that any comtent you share on there including DMs and photos is theirs and they can use it for "any purpose" including commercial use.

So, if you have a page you’ve left up and don’t want them there’s time to act 1/

Amazing to live in a country where every day you can watch Republicans gin up issue salience out of nothing but attitude and 4chan posts and a sizeable chunk of people think Democrats' only power is to vote yes or no on bills placed in front of them

The lesson of January 6th is that it does absolutely no good to prosecute the the violent foot soldiers if you're not going to prosecute the leaders and hold them accountable for their sedition under the full force of the law.

Blue states must stop paying federal taxes.
“Minnesota, New York, California, Illinois and Colorado will be cut off from around $7 billion in funding for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, which provides cash assistance to households with children, according to two people familiar with the matter.”

Monstrously cruel.

Major news networks will just let Stephen Miller come on to rant about how the US can and should invade every country it wants to but have never had a Palestinian on their air. This is a quite deliberate choice and makes clear what the media values.

Years ago when I was a lot more naive I would get annoyed when people on the far left would say that Democrats and Republicans were the same. Surely anyone can see that Republicans do bad things Democrats would never do! But in fact what makes Dems as bad is their inaction.

The GOP didn't have the votes for many years but that didn't stop them from pulling out every procedural trick possible while screaming at Dems on TV. And now they're in charge.
Lot of people yelling recently "but we don't have the votes!" True! That doesn't mean "immediately quit." (Also not what propter is saying here, to be clear.) It means create a spectacle, make things cause celebres, make the Republican position untenable.

Create bargaining position and force votes.

"Useless" doesn't even begin to convey how snivelingly pathetic the Dems are.
On the first day back following the kidnapping of Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro & first lady Cilia Flores, 6 Senate Democrats vote yea to confirm Keith Bass as an Assistant Secretary of Defense by a vote of 50-35.

I actually would like to see more pro-democracy messaging in politics but instead of throwing it around like a magic word you could tell people how it connects to their social and economic life experience. Here are a hundred ways your life is shitty because a handful of evil dorks make the decisions

These people aren’t even just sadistic narcissists, they’re basically solipsists. No one else REALLY exists. Only their personal comfort is relevant to any conversation on any topic.
When I said last year that the average American MAGA supporter closely resembles a Russian vatnik in both mindset and ideology, I meant it seriously.

Nobody is going to be doing handsprings when Bill Waterson or Garry Trudeau pass away, and this could have worked out too for the Dilbert guy if he hadn’t been such a big mouth. But no, he had to be a gigantic moral scold who ventured into public misogyny and racism.

Genius Democratic politician annoyed that Democrats might represent the interests and beliefs of Democratic voters
So if I have this straight, Axios went out and found a couple of centrist congressional Democrats angry that their party is being critical of the takeover of Venezuela, and these members are so tuned in to the pulse of the voters that they would only speak anonymously

So many in media are ill-equipped to interview officials about what’s happening because they begin with the presumption of legitimacy and don’t know enough about history or U.S. foreign policy to foment intelligent pushback and hold officials accountable.
