"We have a 2000s housing bubble level of financial engineering on top of a 1920s level of private unregulated lending on top of something bigger than a 1990s internet (or 1870s railroad) level of technology and infrastructure build-out." prospect.org/2025/11/19/a...
The AI Bubble Is Bigger Than You Think - The American Prospect
It’s not just OpenAI that looks overhyped. There’s a whole mountain of sketchy financial engineering underneath.

On top of all these other problems, millions of people are going to end up having their taxes done incorrectly, because this is the same AI that tells people it’s healthy to eat rocks everyday, and they’re going to end up getting arrested for tax evasion/fraud/other crimes.

This is a concerted effort by the furthest right to pretend to moderate as they see the Trump regime faltering. That way the Democrats and centrists and the news will pat their hands and say "oh you poor things" - and the GOP will further entrench Naziism and come back twice as strong in 2028.

New — I wrote about the myriad ways journalism’s moral rot manifests, and how our crumbling institutions have created the conditions for it to fester:
Moral rot in elite journalism is killing the whole field
The Nuzzi/RFK Jr. mess and the revelation of Esptein's journo pals lay bare a profound moral absence at the heart of our free press.

My mind has been spinning the last few days as multiple crises of journalism converged—the Nuzzi book, Epstein’s emails revealing journalists hid information, Trump berating a reporter with no consequence—and it occurred to me they all stemmed from the same source: elite impunity.

one of the more frustrating things about AI shit is that it, unfortunately, represents how a lot of older types think the computer should work ("ask it questions, get answers, talk with it") and normal interaction with a computer makes them terrified they'll hit a "blow up everything" button

So, you know. Be careful what you post

That feels about right. I saw it yesterday and it's weaker than act 1 just like the stage musical, but I would say they added a lot of good stuff story wise that made it a lot better than the stage act 2 which I just straight up think is not very good.
‘WICKED: FOR GOOD’ debuts at 72% on Rotten Tomatoes, lower than the first movie.

Key information from this story: "humans generally have a crash, whether they are at fault or not, every 700,000 miles. Tesla has 7 in probably ~300,000 miles."

Tesla robotaxis get in crashes at 16 times the rate of human drivers.
“.. Tesla’s current Robotaxi crash rate .. is about 2x higher than Waymo’s, despite in-car supervisors that prevent an unknown number of crashes.”

I guess "modern American masculinity is a neotenous emotional state where the culture permits, and even cultivates, juvenile developmental qualities into adulthood" is just a fancy way of saying "everyone is twelve now"
Border Patrol chief Greg Bovino "also revered Starship Troopers, Robert Heinlein's 1959 military sci-fi classic about an interstellar war between humans and alien bugs - a book his sister says he still reads to this day."
An endless amount of deranged details in this interview with Greg Bovino's sister, but most notably that his uncle produced the Jack Nicholson movie The Border and the depiction of the agent as corrupt radicalized him as a 12-yr-old.

"Since then, he was like, 'Dude, I want to do Border Patrol.'"
