Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

…These people have quite actively tried to ensure that if they go down we're going with them.

So I'm saying i want them stopped, but i want the equivalent of a controlled descent, the pilots and crew arrested on the scene, and a prolonged & public FAA investigation about how the fuck this happened.
Look, i know a lot of us live for the schadenfreude of the crash & burn but i don't think some of you realize just in how many ways we are all in the fucking plane.

Chuck Schumer’s insistence on “reining in” ICE is so infuriating because they simply do not believe themselves bound by the law. The only solution to ending the concentration camps, the torture, the abductions, the murder, is to disband the agency and prosecute the lawbreakers.
Courts have ruled 4,400 times that ICE jailed people illegally. It hasn’t stopped.

The thing many people fail to grasp—the thing you are sort of prevented from ever having a reason to grasp until you put the effort in to learn or life demands it of you—is that a world in which you see a lot of disabled people is simply a world in which more people survive disability.
I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.

Wow, almost like the media and journalism profession failed in some sort of professional duty to actually inform these low-engagement voters about what Trump was saying he wanted to do and the consequences of those plans.

There is a moral-failure-of-the-voters here, but it's not the only one.
New poll: In 2024, low-engagement voters went for Trump over Harris by 11 percentage points. But now they disapprove of the way he's handling the presidency by 13. They have moved 25 points against Trump — 2x as large as the shift for high-knowledge voters www.gelliottmorris.com/p/trump-lost...
Trump has lost the voters who weren’t paying attention in 2024
The least-engaged Americans have swung 25 points against him since 2024 — about twice the shift among everyone else. Trump has flattened the engagement gap.

"Here, finally, is a worthy use of the NIMBY impulse that is so easy to activate for worse reasons." Friends, you can use that. I highly recommend going full Karen for the right reasons.
When I got the contract to write a history of concentration camps in 2014, I hoped to keep the US from ending up here. That didn't work out! But now it's critical to understand how much is already in process and the enormity of what's coming. The sooner we act to stop it, the more people we'll save.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

It was transforming the biggest NFL stage in the world into a sugar cane plantation that did it for me.

Like, the multiple layers of turning an American icon into a plantation and highlighting the history of exploitation of Black and Brown bodies by the NFL and American colonialism simultaneously?
