can only be described as fluctuating between an obsession with mosquito nets, and a desire to make eugenics great again"
Very effective at what they're doing, which has never been "altruism."
Learning so much about effective altruism this week!

One of the reasons Trump is in the White House is that people think both parties are equally corrupt. They're not, but statements like this make it really hard for people to see that truth.
Jeffries claims the charges against Cueller were "very thin" and says Trump's pardon was "exactly the right outcome"

I think jasmine crockett running for senate would be hilarious (complimentary) and that she’s more likely to win statewide than the other candidates.

given these margins, we’ll probably win the house and the senate, so in my mind, the main obstacle to saving our democracy remains the senators fighting to keep the filibuster

I’ve seen at least a few stories about chronic illness running in families that are narratives of deep support and understanding but no stories about the other kind of experience you can have with this. I kind of want to write this myself but I also don’t wanna like…hurt anyone or really work on

imo it’s not really a binary between people who love learning for its own sake and people who just want to get money because there’s a third thing, “people who mostly care about stuff to the extent it can be used in a concrete way to help humanity“. and as a member of that category, we rely heavily

do any of y’all know an immigration lawyer/policy understander who might be interested in helping with policy demands for this
we need a campaign to get democratic representatives and senators to state their position on abolishing ice and then write letters to local newspapers about it.
before DHS.) I imagine that any real attempt to abolish ice by the democrats might be tied to additional funding for local police, but they will probably do that anyway.

abolishing ice feels like the most important medium term political goal.

"Urban elites in Tulsa" is a great microcosm of the contradictions in US politics
The Oklahoma senator who sponsored a new law to curtail citizen initiatives said he wants to “give more Oklahomans, not just the urban elites in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, a say in what questions qualify for the ballot.”
Republicans Add New Barriers to Oklahoma’s Dizzyingly Fast Process for Citizen Initiatives
A new law adds to a string of GOP-run states that have undercut direct democracy by piling on onerous new regulations and raising the threshold for signatures.
