Wild how many people operate on the assumption that all women work corporate email jobs and men work 16-hour shifts mud-wrestling in mine shafts. The most common sector for women is healthcare. And I have seen things working in healthcare that would make men yearn for the mines.

An absurd thing is that New Mexico is the last state to not pay its legislators (they get per-diems) which among everything else explains why it's mostly lawyers that can take 1-2 months off every year writing all our laws.

I was vaxxed as a kid in the 80s/90s but no longer have titers for measles. Maybe worth checking!
Measles is a bellwether. Because it’s the most contagious vaccine-preventable disease, when vaccination rates drop, it’s the first to start spreading.

Now we’ve got mumps rolling up.

Expect more.

This is just the beginning of RFK Jr.’s successful infectious disease reintroduction plan.

I say this as someone who loves technology but hates the tech industry - why do we have to love technology? why do we have to give something like AI clemency for its errors? It's a product we are being sold, it should have to earn our money or attention.
I can’t believe you lefty Luddites hate tech so much that you embrace mRNA vaccines, heat pumps, electric bikes, hybrid work, renewable power (and awesome advancements in storage), space telescopes, and hot/cold running water but reject the planet destroying plagiarism enrich the worst people bots!

They also did it in Charlottesville. I know a lot of people thought her death would move the political needle but they are just going to call her a race traitor in their little groups just like they did white protesters during the height of the Civil Rights movement. These people love to hate.
This is the kind of thing white supremacists have been doing to Emmett Till’s memorial for decades.

It’s wild to see them do this to a white woman who the entire world saw extrajudicially murdered.
Someone doused Renee Good’s Minneapolis memorial and a nearby pile of wood with gasoline and started a fire at about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The decline of right wing cultural production is just due to the fact that they don’t like culture, they like the signifiers of culture, ie “classic sculpture means white people are better.” They don’t like art at all except for this purpose. They don’t even like the nerd stuff they whine about

JD Vance insinuates Eileen Gu should be representing the United States at Winter Olympics

Your budget indicates your priorities.
I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.

And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.
I’m constantly astounded at the sheer level of artistic production coming out of Iceland. Novels, movies, music. Amazing.

And here comes the mandatory caveat: It's not a high salary, it's very competitive, it needs more funding and it's by no means a perfect system. But it's the reason why I've been able to write full time the past 10 years or so.
