One of the best cross-examinations I've heard started with: "Sir, can you describe what you're apologizing for?"

That seems appropriate here.
Larry Summers tells @theharvardcrimson.bsky.social
he’s stepping back from all public commitments in light of his messages with Epstein, saying he is “deeply ashamed” and hopes “to rebuild trust and repair relationships.”

He will continue teaching.

unforgivable web/app UX trend: the thing where the minute you start typing a search, results start showing up every time you add a letter and, inevitably, everything lags the fuck out

i should not have to write my search terms in notepad and copy-paste them in!!! 🫠

Lotta good stuff here.
Okay, let's try this. One like, one good tax reform idea. Popular or not, but one I think will improve our country and strengthen our democracy.

The Founders were so concerned about bribery that the Constitution forbids it three separate times. Two emoluments clauses ban officials—unambiguously including the president—from accepting things of value, plus bribery is the only named impeachable offense besides treason.

Unprecedentedly corrupt.

Just heard re: some ICE agents who raided a Chicago taqueria, then went back to the same taqueria for lunch the following week and got confused when the owner kicked them out, and I realized "jesus these doofuses really do believe we're all living in a video game where the NPCs have no memory"

F that!

FWIW, I've reached out to the Alliance Defending Freedom and the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty — groups that have long touted their support for religious freedom — about things such as the treatment of clergy, alleged inability of ICE detainees to access religious rites, etc.

No response yet.
The Christian right for decades has fear-mongered that federal agents (under Dem presidents) would "criminalize" Christianity and literally prevent them from worshipping.

Now that Trump's stormtroopers are doing it ... crickets
Here’s a story for every national news outlet:

In N.C., churchgoers are literally running into the woods as federal agents descend on the property.

“Inside the church, women and children sobbed as they wondered whether their loved ones had been taken.”

It’s useful for people of my generation to be reminded that this wasn’t that long ago. Ruby Bridges isn’t just still alive—she’s only 71, not ancient!
65 years ago on Nov. 14, little Ruby Bridges was escorted into an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Norman Rockwell, renowned for blissful depictions of Americana, did this remarkable painting for Look magazine. Printed as a double page, over-size spread, it's his masterpiece.

A violent attack for which there is no excuse; this is simply an assault dispensed by the cops because they're annoyed at the protesters.
at one point, i watched a cook county sheriff’s officer (who appears to be in charge) point out a priest in the crowd.

he and a couple officers then went into the crowd , dragged him into the street, and arrested him.

situation is still tense as crowd jostles with police to get into the street.
