A crucial post that explains so much.
Insane data from Germany shows how social media is geared towards more fringe political views. The left bar shows the share of uploaded videos by party on TikTok and the right bar shows what videos are shown in the feed. Social media loves the extremes and is NOT a fair mirror of reality.

Similarly, it was not a war crime in 1945 to drop an atomic bomb on a city. It may have been wicked. But that is not the same thing.
this is a pet peeve of mine. "war crime" is not something that means "bad thing I think is wrong". it is not a war crime to murder thousands of retreating enemy soldiers. it is a war crime to paint a Red Cross on a truck. if you think something is morally wrong just fucking say that.
ok so the basic problem here is that you have no idea what “war criminal” means except it’s a phrase that people react to

I've had a sadistic interest in stories about Carter-Ruck ever since a previous employer whom I took to the Small Claims Court for £400 engaged C-R. They then send me a hilarious three page rebuttal of my (one paragraph) claim and implied I could be liable for massive costs.

I won, needless to say.
NEW: Britain’s top libel firm, Carter-Ruck, acted for OneCoin - a $4bn crypto-fraud.

The firm threatened whistleblowers, journalists, regulators, and even the police.

Carter-Ruck's work helped the fraud continue as long as it did.

Was that a crime?

I've lost count of how many times I've had to point out facts like this to people who then literally refuse to accept it could be true. They will fight desperately to cling to the belief that crime is increasing irrespective of the evidence. My uncharitable conclusion: many people want to be scared.
The even more unbelievable crime fact (which I learned relatively recently) is that burglary has fallen by more than 90% since the 1990s.

Did anyone notice? Nope. Does anyone believe it? Nope. But is is true? It is!
