there's a moment in PARADISE LOST where Satan arrives in Eden and realizes Hell isn't a place; it's a thing he carries within him and it'll follow him wherever he goes. and i think about that when i see these awful rich men whose monstrous wealth has enriched them not at all
“whatever club he’s invited to join has been devalued by the invitation”

Every office has an executive tier whose emails are like:

saw on news , , can we replce complianc dept with web 3

and a worker tier whose emails are like:

Dear Jim,
First of all, I *love* this idea! Unfortunately, I spoke with Legal and identified a few issues with this approach. For starters…
Well, it's a little clearer now why billionaires are so invested in technology that produces better written emails.

Making people hate you so much they prep an eviscerating obituary for you just so this can be published after their own death is next level, truly
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Before they changed the constituency boundaries, I used to have Afzal Khan as my local MP.

Every time we had Levy Pride on, he made a point of tweeting something nice, polite and supportive about it. And back in 2013 he voted for gay marriage when it comes to it.
If you asked me to come up with the names of politicians who are publicly and unapologetically pro-LGBT and pro-trans rights in particular, two of the most obvious would now both be Muslim mayors of major cities. And both are routinely smeared as regards to 'Sharia Law'.

Japan's "Mundane Halloween" costume contest is back!

Each year website DailyPortalZ holds a contest where people dress up as something super duper ordinary.

Here's a thread of some of my favorites from the 2025 contest!

Once was a king called Ozzy (MANDIAS!)
Had a wrinkled sneer to cold (COMMAND US!)
Wanted all the peeps to despair at his (WORKS!)
Giant statue of himself lookin like a (JERK!)
Statue broke down in the endless (WASTE!)
Only legs left and a busted (FACE!)
There once was a king, Ozymand
Who bragged about all he’d command.
Trying to fill his foes with fright he
Said “Look on my works, ye mighty!”
But now it’s all trunkless legs and sand.
I heard there was a statue tall
That sneered at folk and commanded all
But you don't really care for symbols do ya
It goes like this the feet the fist
The head that fell the aim that missed
The long lost king whose name was Ozymandias

Good news if you prefer print books - my Christmassy Welsh F/F romance novella All Is Bright is now available in paperback:

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0FYGLJ6CB
Bethan, dragged back to her home village, is desperate to escape before Christmas. Mali, grieving the loss of a friend, knows Christmas won't be the same this year. A misunderstanding starts them off on the wrong foot - but perhaps they're each just what the other needs?

i don't like Streeting but this does need to happen more. if Britain is a nation of only white people, it loses out on SO MUCH. communities have thrived on diversity literally since there have been people.
Striking to hear a senior Government minister in Wes Streeting clearly condemning Sarah Pochin's racism and the wider spread of racism across the UK, while defending the contribution of migrants to our country. Feels like a long time since we've heard a government minister speak like that

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

This is a fascinating thread, but my personal favourite bit about it is imagining it all done in an apparently Manc accent
It’s the 111th anniversary today of the birth of Harry Rée, who was a teacher and conscientious objector when the Second World War broke out, and by the time it ended, when he was 31, had invented ‘blackmail sabotage’ and got a DSO, an OBE, a Croix de Guerre, and a Medaille de la Resistance

Mr Laos. Just when you though this year was a bit quiet on the insanely huge, bedazzled, symbolic costumes along comes Mr Laos and blows everyone else out of the water. This is insane, but it's also *so* good.
