Hi @xigxaguk.bsky.social! Love your app, love your books, love not giving any money to Amazon ... Having trouble tonight connecting to my library though; is this a you or me problem? The app says I'm offline but as you can see here I am not.

OK, for a show you can actually see with your eyes:

Blackadder Goes Forth.

Oddly, when only listened to – and it stands up perfectly well as a radio show – the last episode doesn't hit nearly as hard.
Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show:

What's the *best* ending to a show you've ever seen? Quote/reply etc

Not seen, technically, but the last episode of Cabin Pressure was the opposite of GoT in that it retroactively made the entire series even better – and that took some doing. (I suppose one could argue that Cabin Pressure is the Platonic opposite of GoT in practically every way.)

This is also why the US will never have single-payer socialised health care: to many pensions invested in the sickness industry.
Having lived through all of these myself, I think what's different about the self-harm/lies/CSAM/job-loss machine is that it has inflated, and stands to inflate even more, an awful lot of investment portfolios.
*laughs derisively as someone who lived thru Satanic Panic, Parent Groups killing cartoons wholesale, all Rap being labeled “obscene” to the point of 2 Live Crew being vilified, MTV being deemed a pop culture wasteland & the 1619 Proj/CRT being discoursed into hell*

But the suicide machine is ok 🙃

It's really silly how the right often portrays people who want renewables as lettuce munching wokie pinko hippy beatniks when a hard-nosed and pragmatic national security argument for them also exists right in front of their noses. Shackling ourselves to capricious foreign dictators to own the libs.
Unhook ourselves from oil and gas and we unhook ourselves from dependency on dictators, autocrats and expansionist regimes all over the planet.
Renewables and other low-carbon energy sources are not just good climate sense. They are also good political sense.

An incantation to soothe anger from nearly 4 millennia ago for those in need of one.

It begins by telling us what anger is and does.

“Anger goes like a wild bull, it continually leaps forth like a dog.”

Anger is like a lion and a wolf.

It is fierce. It runs. It tears at one’s face and stomach.

my 75yo mother told me last night that she’s planning to delete Instagram and Facebook because she’s sick of not being able to tell what’s AI and what’s not, and I genuinely don’t think tech companies have reckoned with this kind of move as an actual possibility

Just realised there is a disease that causes unexplained bruising, loose connective tissue, incontinence, and in later stages confusion and delirium, and that disease is scurvy. Can you get scurvy from a diet of big macs and coke? I bet you can.
