Is it maybe time for a plucky little nation to tell a despot across the ocean to pound sand?
Someone could make a whole musical about it in the end. How about it?

Oglaf is the funniest filth on these here internets.
My latest at @comicsjournal.bsky.social: I talked to @oglaf.bsky.social! Not the character, but rather, the people who create it.
They don't do many interviews, so this was a real treat. They're funny people! Turns out they're not super private, just...really bad at PR?

Talking Oglaf with Trudy Cooper and Doug Bayne: 'We'd stay up all night drawing stuff to make each other laugh' - The Comics Journal
Other than some time off every year for Christmas, Trudy Cooper and Doug Bayne have delivered a new Oglaf comic, skewering fantasy tropes with absolutely not safe for work humor, every week since 2008...

The ancient road map is very nice.
But where I live didn't get colonised, so there's just no roads.
Come find me in the forest and try not to get ambushed, I guess.

I‘m on my nonsense again. This week’s Six Things:
– ancient road map
– huge piggy landscape
– hardcore Lake District fells
– sneezing responses
– a very short and very silly film about Oreos
– yes you do need another game in your daily routine

Still thinking about yesterday's customer support chatbot telling me "I’m really sorry to hear you’re disappointed. I understand how frustrating this must be."
Coming from a bot, incapable of feeling sorry or understanding anything, this is borderline demeaning.

Bought Vivobarefoot sneakers that I genuinely loved, but they started coming apart at the top eyelet after four months. Vivobarefoot now uses a godforsaken AI chatbot for customer support. It's going EXACTLY the way you'd expect it to go.

And so Potatober is at an end. It's been fun, see you next year?

It's the end of the road for BBC Science in Action. But science itself is facing growing roadblocks. For this terminal edition of SinA I'm joined by @naomioreskes.bsky.social @drdebhoury.bsky.social @michaelemann.bsky.social & @angierasmussen.bsky.social for where now?

Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered tuber lies, whose flaked
and flame-charred peel, distant from farmer's land,
Tells that its sculptor oft those taters baked,
The skin that crisped up, and the flesh that fed;
And on the pedestal...

Potatober #25: Today may be international pasta day, but pasta is basically Nudeln, and Nudeln include southern German Schupfnudeln: a delicious noodle-dumpling-hybrid that nowadays contains potatoes. I pan fry them, mix them with sauerkraut and other ingredients, then bake them. Better than gnocci!

Potatober #24: According to @adamcsharp.bsky.social , "t'es une pomme de terre avec la visage d'un cochon d'inde", "you are a potato with the face of a guinea pig", is an insult.
But potatoes are awesome and guinea pigs are cute, so I can only put this down to an odd French aversion to lumpiness.
