welcome to my bluesky
This is really good, so I’m using it as a springboard:

We’re getting very close to redefining what makes a HOF pitcher, but if it ends up being the old-school-workhorses (Pettitte, Buehrle) over the elite but less of a workload (Felix, Johan when that happens), I personally will be quite frustrated
Putting a lot of thought into the HOF ahead of my first vote, and I keep seeing: weak ballot, no one deserving, how can you vote for more than 2-3?

And .. I agree the first-year class isn't great. But depending on how you view things, there's 15-17 guys you could find a way to get there on.

this is a good one!
It's Iron Bowl week, and that means it's the perfect time to check out IRON IN THE BLOOD, my new book on the Auburn-Alabama rivalry. From the game's humble origins on a Birmingham baseball field right up to 2025, from Bear to Bo to Cam to Nick, we've got you covered.

This might be a boomer take but I find myself increasingly annoyed by basketball (and a growing number of baseball!) broadcasters who refer to players primarily by their first name

Tim Meadows has gotta be one of the greatest glue guys of all time. Whenever he’s in something that’s overall funny, he’s one of the best parts of it
obviously tim meadows is the absolute MVP of this movie. everything he says is hilarious.

Speaking at a Texas Tribune Festival on Friday, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg criticized the Democratic Party for failing to reach everyday Americans, arguing that it “got sucked in” to a conversation about identity. #TribFest25
Pete Buttigieg critiques Democrats for focus on identity
The former U.S. transportation secretary said the Democratic Party should focus more on issues gripping the country, such as health care and housing affordability.

can't wait to see this. Bi Gan is one of the most exciting filmmakers working right now, highly recommend watching Long Day's Journey Into Night if you haven't seen it yet.
Trailer for Bi Gan’s RESSURRECTION. It takes place over 100 years of Chinese history in stories about all your senses, it’s about a monster & movies & love and how we somehow invented a strange method for sharing dreams.

one time pitcher john denny knocked reggie jackson down with a brushback pitch. next time up reggie blasted a moonshot home run off him. denny kept chirping at him as he rounded the bases and wouldn't stop, so reggie stepped on home, charged the mound and beat his ass. andrew cuomo is john denny

underrated aspect of Mamdani’s campaign is that the guy’s got bars
MAMDANI: "I wish Andrew Cuomo only the best in private life, but let tonight be the last time I utter his name ...."

to Glenn Youngkin: eat shit!!
i wouldn't be a total glenn youngkin hater if i didn't mention that the results tonight mean that his total tenure amounted to presiding over the destruction — at least for the next few years — of the virginia republican party. lmao.

and if I have any big earnest hopes about this victory‘s broader significance, one is that maybe, just maybe, we’ve started to correctly and popularly understand that the guy setting $10M on fire rather than giving it away to struggling neighbors is a huge fucking loser and that’s loser behavior

please help my rapidly-disintegrating group chat
Okay, the group chat is stumped so I’m throwing it to the general public: What connects all of these players listed?

seems that RFK is clearing the path for his CDC to do tuskegee syphillis experiments as a matter of course. in other news, RFK is a genuine monster who relishes in the pain and suffering of those he feels he has control or dominion over
RFK is undoing human subjects protections so he can conduct placebo trials of vaccines. That means infecting people knowingly. I wonder who will “volunteer” for these trials? If history is any guide, a lot of incarcerated and other powerless people.
Dismantling the Institutional Review Board (IRB), that oversees all human subjects research, is bad. Really bad.

Benicio might be one of my five favorite actors ever
Yet to see OBAA but I was enchanted by Benicio's performance in the other Anderson's movie. Man has a wonderful year, well deserved at that.

a poll idea that just popped into my head: since we've collectively been doing 90's nostalgia for awhile as a culture, what's your secret/stealth best 90's album? not something necessarily widely super critically beloved but is nonetheless great and defining for you?

This might be the worst ICE video yet, because it’s literally random dudes hanging around, and then a bunch of heavily armed thugs running them down completely out of nowhere, because they’re brown. It’s a nightmare that would have seemed excessive in Jim Crow. Everyone in America should see this.
ICE is not only chasing down every random brown person in Chicago, they have a cameraman following them to film this for social media. Cruelty and inhumanity as content.
