Gallo’s BB% in the minors was *way* higher than Jones’ too. So at least there was *some* tradeoff for that absurd K%. Gallo also had a much higher HR rate.
So uh yeah can’t see any way this ends poorly for Jones!

and if I have any big earnest hopes about this victory‘s broader significance, one is that maybe, just maybe, we’ve started to correctly and popularly understand that the guy setting $10M on fire rather than giving it away to struggling neighbors is a huge fucking loser and that’s loser behavior

This is part of why I’m against the salary cap actually. Big market teams will just reinvest that money in development, they’ll have a bunch of rookie-contract players ready for the MLB that other teams won’t, which means they’ll *still* have a financial advantage in a cap league!
